To be honest,
i'd love to see the 142's withdrawn from the NE aswell.
Am getting sick of them on the Tyne Valley line. The 156's are ok and so are the 158's.
PLease get shot of them all

Cheers

There's othing wrong with pacers, yes they're really bouncy, but that gives them character. And incase there are people looking at this forum saying "Why are pacers bouncy, I thought they all had bogey-wheels" Go to a station where pacers go through, just look at the wheels, you'll understand. But if anyone has ever been between Manchester Victoria and Salford Central on a pacer, you should do it, it's really bouncy there. It should be branded as one of lifes great adventures, one of the 50 things to do before you die. etc. etc

No, I was looking at this and saying "Why are you re-opening so many old threads on Pacers?"

It was a major humilation for BR that they had to bring 40 year old units out of store to replace them and not something I'm sure they did lightly.
As Allypally said they were sent North as having only 2 axels created excessive wear on the bendy track. (Sorry couldn't think of a better word for bendy.)

Not entirely true. They've been up to Glasgow and Kilmarnock quite a lot for work to be done on them, originally all via Dumfries, but while the Gretna - Annan work was done they were cleared via Carstairs! :D :D :D

As Spartacus said 142 units are not totally banned is Scotland as there is one heading for Glasgow now.
