[Copyright / Piracy] kujurailsimulator.nl

General discussion about Rail Simulator that doesn't really fit in to any specific category. A good place to start if you're not sure what category it should fit in to as well.

I agree with Sly, some seem to wonder why someone would only upload their content on one site, the answer is obviously that they want to support the site and with this being a thriving UK site many do want to support it. By allowing smaller sites to upload the exact same content it is drawing traffic away from UKTrainSim, in addition the allowance of instant downloads of this content probably causes many less people to become premium members on the site. The message being seek permission from content creators to ensure they do not mind alternative download sites, it doesn't hurt does it?

Surely the people downloading from 'other' sites do not have, nor intend to have, a premium membership here. Because of this they would be using the 'free' service here and therefore increasing the costs of running the site without contributing to them. If they go elsewhere then costs will reduce but premium members will still have the same service they had before. I can't see the problem (from that standpoint) personally.

I guess it's just a loyalty thing. Most projects are done because the author wants it done for himself. Rarely does anyone do anything they're not interested in at all just because someone asked. The fact the author uploads it is him giving something back to the community who have most probably helped him a lot in the past. I have no problem with UKTrainSim to be honest, I think it's a great website. A monthly subscription really doesn't cost much considering the astronomical bandwidth required to keep this site again.

That might be what you want, but all you need is a little patience.

I agree, but was this the thing, why this topic was openend? NO.

I think this question is better: Who really cares about uktrainsim? It's all payware.
I think, it doesn't matter that it is payware, but when a site is payware, i don't care about it!
I have no problem with supporting the running of a site (any site) that I find particularly useful. It doesnt come across to me as a commercial venture, just covering costs. One of the things I like about UKTS (and ts.com could maybe think about this) is the ability to pay monthly. Of course it works out a bit more expensive, but it does spread the cost, which is a good thing for me.
This is a concern. You maybe think it's only to cover the costs, but it isn't true!
May be this is a cultural thing ? I am not interested in some sort of popularity contest for my meagre downloads. I want to support this site. I know that the points raised by Jim and others are perfectly valid - once something is uploaded you lose control of it. However, I choose to upload my stuff here. My German boss has a saying "give someone your little finger and they will try to take your arm". Well this is how I feel - if I have 1 upload site to worry about updating if someone finds an error then that is easy - if I have 5 then it gets harder and takes more of my time and people get upset if the sites are out of synch.
Maybe on other sites, but not by us. Maybe GerJan(1) has the meaning to use our downloads to place on his own site.
But we are trying to have many downloads of RS on our site. Then it's not the intension for our users, to place the download the have downloaded by us, on their own site. So why do you think this? You have to take choises by yourself, but i don't like what you have said.
I have to express my disatisfaction with uk ts as I find it really annoying waiting on the quee just to pay for some because they want it(by making you wait in the queue they are somehow force you to become premium member),and IMO we just want to have freeware not payware.Thats my opinion on it,so in the end I apreciate eloc and his site
As noted above - Matt has gone through the logic behind the economics of this site several times. You have a choice - pay and get faster downloads or queue for the free ones. A large proportion of the time spent over the last few years on this site by Matt has been to improve the non-premium services.
Everything is about economics, but is this true?! I don't believe this. You are (uktrainsim) a concern. You set a ''downloadstop'' on your site, with the intension to make more people believe, a payware account is the only option. This is absolutely crazy  . But i hope everyone takes a payware account, so i have the space, to download stuff for free :P

@ kevmt,
I've just received a number of PM from the webmaster of the second site I mentioned, showing me the permisions to upload there work from various people. I've removed the link from here to save any further embarssment
Why do you place our site here, and the other site not? What are you doing?! Is this fair? NO!

And then JiveBunny.
He doesn' know the facts. I have no idea, why he hgas openend this topic. I guess, it was a mistake, beacause he is now under fire, even uktrainsim.
And many thanks to GerJan(1) too, he knows about what i am talking. We will see.....
The registration page on railsim.nl does not seem to work, so I have no idea what's on that site, however kujurailsimulator.nl are hosting practically everything available on UKTS so I thought I'd notify everyone as I am assuming the rest of the content has similarly been taken from UKTS without consent (apologies if consent has indeed been sought and given).
Then you have to apologies people a lot.

Ohh, i see another post.

You seem to have misunderstood my point, i am pretty certain that if content stayed exclusively to UKTrainSim more people would pay for a premium account, and it is not just about the money, the community would like as many members as possible to use and enjoy the site so it would be better if they did make use of the forums and great site rather than going 'elsewhere'.

May I suggest two things:

A) If it is shown that all UKTS content at kujurailsimulator.nl is there with permission, could the OP please change the subject of this thread to something like "Assumed .... - clarified" or something else more friendly. If I ran a site, I would not be happy to see such a thread go to the archives forever, and be listed in Google and all that. If there are doubts for some items, can we please either discuss them openly in detail, or can they be settled behind scenes. At the end of the day, everyone should know whether the accusations proved true or not.

B) Could all the people who do not care about UKTS or dislike it go somewhere else. There is a lot of people here who are happy about the way UKTS is, and the simple thing - and it happens all the time - is to run another scheme on another server. So there is no need to tell people at A to tell them that they should be like B, or A as a whole should be like B or whatever. And vice versa.

And could all the people who want something for free but do not get it, go to their local supermarket or pub and demand free beer there, not here. Thanks.

Edit: to hasty to type the first sentence completely in the first attempt ....

Finally, someone where i can talk with.
I am gonna stop to talk about this unfair discussion.

Uktrainsim is a good site, but has some ''dark'' sides. So what, kujurailsimulator has dark sides too.
Again very thank you to GerJan and Jivebunny to set our site in the light, but next time, you don't have to do this.
We are going further, where we stopped.
Enjoy this site, and have fun.

Strange. All it took for me to download what I wanted from UKTrainSim for free was the patience to wait for each item.

All of the content on UKTS is available for free, therefore it is not payware. However I am slightly concerned that you think it is ok to steal payware and host it on your own website.
Everything is about economics, but is this true?! I don't believe this. You are (uktrainsim) a concern. Many of us, myself included, do not have premium membership to UKTS and are happy to wait a few minutes for a download. If you are incapable of waiting then I suggest you either buy a premium membership, or make your own content. I don't really understand how people can afford to spend hundreds of pounds on a computer, £20-£30 for games and £20 a month for an internet connection, yet somehow "can't afford" premium membership at UKTS. If people don't want to pay then they have the option of waiting a few minutes, I don't see where the problem is. If you wanted to quickly get from one side of a city to the other then you would need to buy petrol or pay for public transport. If you did not want to spend any money then you would have the option of either walking and taking a bit longer to reach your destination, or stealing a vehicle. Most people know which option is acceptable and which is not...
And then JiveBunny.
He doesn' know the facts. I have no idea, why he hgas openend this topic. I guess, it was a mistake, beacause he is now under fire, even uktrainsim.
What on earth are you talking about? You did not request permission to host my content and I did not give you permission to do so, that is why this topic was opened. You clearly have no understanding of copyright or intellectual property rights, if you did then this topic would not exist. The only people under fire in this topic are those who are endorsing piracy, i.e you and your (very few) supporters. I think the fact that you have deleted my account at kujurailsimulator.nl speaks for itself. To be honest I think it would be beneficial for UKTS if accounts were immediately deleted if they were found to be linked to copyright infringement or piracy.
jivebunny wrote:(apologies if consent has indeed been sought and given).
Then you have to apologies people a lot.
I will happily apologise if you can prove that you obtained permission to host all of the content on your website :)
