Class 67s are not fitted with TDM, they are fitted with AAR; the inverse is true for Mk3 vehicles.

AAR is just a coupling that the Class 67 has.
TDM is basically a way for the driver to control the 91 from the DVT when he's driving the train from the DVT.

The air braking system is operated from whatever cab he's in and if the TDM equipment and cannot be reconfigured, the train may still operate, but if the DVT is leading, it will be necessary to uncouple the locomotive and attach it to the front of the train.

Just thought I mention that I saw a 91 in this formation today en route to Bounds Green going though Hertford North, :D

I wasn't aware that 67s could push. What's with the DVT then?

I hope this explains it in more detail as it's the same idea...

EWS Company Train (CoT) is a one-off charter train used in the United Kingdom.

The fixed configuration train-set consists of three British Rail Mark 3 coaches sandwiched between a driving trailer and locomotive.

The end units, a dedicated Class 67 No. 67029 diesel locomotive and Driving Van Trailer also sport a special livery differing from the main coaches—striking silver with black lettering. DVT No. 82146 has been modified with controls for Electro-Motive Diesel's AAR system used on British Rail Class 59/66/67 engines, the signals are conveyed over additional cabling installed in the intervening coaches.


So basically, when the driver is driving from the DVT, the equipment installed allows him to control the loco on the rear.

Indeed it does, thank you ajax103. Very clever then. If the W & S are to operate out of Marylebone, surely they will need to upgrade the line so it can handle the extra capacity? :-?

I' can't help on the issue of upgrading the Marylebone line as I don't know that area, although I'm glad I was able to help out with regards to your question about the operation of the trains :)

I'm not sure about that. I think 67 are TDM fitted but need modifying to allow the fire extinguishers to be set of remotely in case of fire

Are these trains essentially Bodge-job Multiple units in the same vain BR used to think HSTs were DEMUs.

Doesn't appear this train company will be running trains in Spring 2008 as predicted on their website. According to qjump, thetrainline, etc, there's none of their services scheduled to be running as far in advance as June.

Could be another Grand Central, with their services not starting to run months and months and months after the original estimated date.

Just because they arn't in the system at the moment doesn't mean they won't be added when they are ready to start.

67s arn't fitted with TDM equipment, so unlike classes 86-91, they can't be remotly controlled from a DVT or DBSO (37/6s and 92s also have TDM, but I don't know if it's compatable with the equipment on the other types). EWS have had their DVT modified so it can remotly control a loco through the AAR (Association of American Railroads) system fitted to the 59s, 66s and 67s (and nearly all American and American built locos), and the Mk3s are also fitted with through wiring for AAR. Since they have one DVT and a couple of Mk3s, compared to hundereds of GM locos, it was much more economical to fit AAR to the set than to fit TDM to a number of 67s, most of which would never need it (or just to fit the one loco and loose flexability).
I expect W&S will do the same, since they will have a number of DVT & Mk3 sets of their own, yet will hire in 67s from EWS. Whilst they will probably have a dedicated (to some extent) pool of locos in their livery, other 67s will likely be used as spairs, taken from the main EWS fleet.
