Goodbye to you all

General discussion about Rail Simulator that doesn't really fit in to any specific category. A good place to start if you're not sure what category it should fit in to as well.

Goodbye to you all

Post by jimmyshand »

It is with great sadness that I must announce my forced retirement from RS Railways. As of yesterday I have officially declared my PC dead and as I can't afford a new one I am stuffed and must hang up my drivers hat and bid you goodbye.
My CPU has gone mental and is running at 100% continually and despite some useful help from the guys in the beginner forum all failed and I can't fix the blasted thing.
I am having to use my works computer to write this message, my beloved hobby has been snatched away from me just as things were about to turn the corner at RS Railways with the long awaited release of patch 1.
I now face the terrrible prospect of having to spend my evenings sat downstairs with Mrs Jimmy watching Dancing on Ice and Eastenders.
Best I stay away from the UKtrainsim forums as it will be too much to bear to see all the good stuff coming out so I bid you all a fond farewell and maybe after a few years of living on Pot Noodles I might be able to scrape together enough cash for a new PC (wish I was joking). Until then, I hope you all enjoy the delights coming soon in the world of RS and no matter how annoyed you may get with RS just be glad you've got it. Must dash, got to get the tea on before Dancing on Ice results are announced!

That's a shame and I know what you mean it'd take a while to save up for a pc good enough to run RS well. Have you tried getting a professional to look at it? I'm assuming you live in the UK as you mentioned EastEnders and Dancing on Ice :) , i know some people object to it but, when my PC broke down I took it to PC World, the service was good, it was quick and for £50 I had it back by the next day.

Hey dont give up that easy, sounds like some nasty spyware, try re-formatting and install windows again before throwing the towel in,it's a long shot but worth it if your pc returns to normal. If you lived near Newcastle I'd come and have a look for free.Lol..pot noodles, dancing on ice

Hey Jimmy, I just read your other thread because of this one and it sounds 99.9% like it's a Windows or Software related issue. I would definately do as Daz says and try reinstalling Windows, you will certainly be no worse off if it is a hardware issue, but it will clear any viri/spyware and give you a nice fresh setup.

I also agree with the others that it doesn't seem to be a hardware problem, so you should at least think about either reinstalling windows or taking it to a pc shop ( it shouldn't cost too much ) that might be able to fix it for you without losing any data etc.

Cheers chaps, I might try and take it to a PC Doctor then. Don't think I can face the prospect of another episode of Eastenders. Although that new lass who used to be in Hollyoaks is wwwwwww, WAIT STOP what's happening to me?? I will get my PC fixed, I will. I want RS back goddammit.....

Stay tuned for further updates.

Have you considered commenting loudly and incessantly on the programs until she pays for you to get your PC fixed so that she can watch her programs in peace? It worked for me in a similar situation.

I will be pulling out all the stops to try and get her to release the funds to sort this problem out. My next tactic is to use the kids as a bargaining tool. If I can get my son to start bleating about how he misses RS then that should make her crack. In order to do that I will need someone to release something cool for RS that will make him want it really bad, like a class 37 perhaps?? or anything will do to be fair.
There is no way she will be able to sustain repeated pressure from me and a six year old.

As the other have said sounds like a windows problem. You should have got some windows recovery disks or a windows cd when you got the PC. A friend with a little PC knowledge is the person you need to ask to format it for you. PC Dr will charge you a fortune for it probally

Jackpot, I have managed to broker a deal with Mrs. Jimmy. I think I am going to give it in to PC World. Does it matter that I don't have the Windows discs?? My PC never came with any although it does have the Windows authenticthingymebob sticker on top.
Any ideas how much it may cost? does fifty quid like someone posted sound about right? Don't want to get ripped off.

I feel on a high now, I was gutted when she blew but now I can't wait to get the old girl into the sheds and back out on the mainline ASAP!

I'm glad your not going to give up, I did a little research and found this, it has gone up a bit since i had a repair but at £69.99 and the promise 'The fixed price PC repair service includes labour no matter how long it takes and if can’t be repaired we offer a No Fix No Fee promise.'

You can take it in and explain the problems and ask for an estimate on any parts needed before they do anything that you will have to pay for and good luck with getting it fixed :).

I dont wish to insult anybody who's already tried to help, but i would never use PCWORLD,try your local pcshop almost every town has one, smaller shop smaller rates, less overheads. My local pc shop charges 15 pounds,to look and fault find and will then advise you what need's to be done.

I have to agree with Tads on this one. I also find that the smaller shops will try harder because they actually care about getting the business.
Cheers,
Stewart.
