"Details" on MK1 Released

Check out official RS forum. I was a little underwhelmed by the amount of detail but hopefully there will be much more in official release notes.

I'm liking these 3 very much:

Uncoupled rolling stock now coasts to a halt rather than stopping dead
The ability to force open manual junctions rather than derailing
Many Dispatcher enhancements to reduce collisions outside the players influence

It is a little light on detail, although that is not very important if the release, which is soon, comes with comprehensive release notes. There are some encouraging things in relation to signalling, although it is sufficiently vague that one cannot say more than that until it is available and tested.

Feb 01 With the imminent release of the first Upgrade for Rail Simulator, we bring you a sneak preview of what is in store.

Thanks to all the feedback from the various Rail Simulator communities we have managed to encompass a great deal into this first Upgrade to the core software. This Upgrade brings all Rail Simulator copies up to the same level, adding all the work completed between European and US releases. With ongoing support for Rail Simulator, we will enhance further areas in future upgrades.

Here are some highlights of what Upgrade Mk1 brings:

· The ability to select from the 6 available languages, in the initial options screen
· The ability to delete unwanted routes and scenarios from the front end menu system
· Better functionality on the 2D Map for picking destinations and tracking the player train
· Reduction of minimum curve radius to encompass narrow gauge railways
· Signalling now recognises when a train is split or joined within a block
· The ability to include assets from outside your own or the default Rail Simulator folder structure
· Uncoupled rolling stock now coasts to a halt rather than stopping dead
· The ability to force open manual junctions rather than derailing
· Many Dispatcher enhancements to reduce collisions outside the players influence

Upgrade Mk1 includes many more enhancements, improvements and fixes for issues people have been experiencing, with the full list viewable in the release notes upon installation.

HST Audio Setup Files
Also released today are the Audio Setup files for the Class 43 High Speed Train. Having had much feedback about this particular locomotive since launch in October 2007, we have decided to release the source setup files to allow developers to get an insight into how to build their own content using the powerful audio functionality present in Rail Simulator.

This additional content can be found on the Official Content page.

Hi, this upgrade does intergrate raildriver, however we are working closely with P.I. Engineering for them to release updated files to allow this to work.

No it doesn't. I tried the basic test again of having a train in a section, uncoupling the locomotive, and driving it into the next section, and having a train in the previous section. When the locomotive passed into the next section, the signal still clears behind the carriages, and the previous train still crashes into them. What is more, the AI trains still ignore driverless consists, and plough right into them, even though the signal aspects protecting the sections show red when a driverless train is in it. Do the people at RSDL think that these are important problems or not?

We consider all valid issues important. However the first upgrade was never intended to address all the issues people have raised on this forum.
Stability and a uniform code base was foremost on the agenda followed by some new features and art fixes. (So that the whole team could address issues and not just code)
We now move our attention to upgrade mk2, more information will be issued on that in due course.
As for your test I can not say if it is valid or not, or if your set up is correct. You have our email address, make an rpk and send it to us.

Hi James
This knocks a scenario I was planning for my own Route on the head then. Player Parcels train stops at platform uncouples and drives out into next sector past next signal to reverse back into a side platform to pick up extra parcel coaches. Drives out of sector through signal and reverses back and couples up with the original coaches then leaves. So if I understand this correctly an AI on the line behind would then hit the parcels coaches remaining on the platform line and not be stopped by the protecting signal. Presumably I would have to move the signal the Loco goes through after uncoupling up the line for this to work correctly so the AI still thinks the Loco is present. This is a pretty typical real life operation in the Real World.

That rather misses the point in the same way as the response "don't use the radio and windscreen wipers at the same time" misses the point when somebody complains that trying to use both simultaneously results in a malfunction.
