E-mail Issues

with refernece to the above thats on the front page.
Are they willing at all especially BT to give answers at all? Or are they just Refusing?

Perhaps this is something that could be done at user registration?
A simple string to disallow both domains would surely be simple to impliment (although I dont know cause of the xrazy coding :P)

Or at least a big red banner saying don't use those addresses?

Hi All,
May I say that I have no problems what so ever (famous last words) using BT/Yahoo for access to this site the Forums or CD ordering or Premium Access payment. I have infact just renewed in the last 2 weeks. I get notifacation of replies to posts and have e-mailed Site Admin and recieved a reply recently.
I have BT Broadband BT/Yahoo e-mail and Norton Security all as came with the package.
Is this a settings problem on security or something?

No idea what it is; all I know is that I get bounce messages to about 80% of the mail heading in that direction (Yahoo run BT's mail server so it's all one and the same). I've emailed through their advertised "what to do if you get this bounce message" address about half a dozen times detailing the problem and requesting a solution but to date they've not received a response.

I had this problem a couple of years ago and ended up working out the solution myself after some months of playing around, now they've presumably changed something else or added some more anti-spam and it's all bust again.

I've put a message on the sign up page, but all that's done is get people to email me (from their bt account) asking what to do next, which really doesn't help since they won't get my reply :)

Thankfully I personally use googlemail for my email, all my matt@uktrainsim mail get pushed over to googlemail so my replies via that route work fine, but as you can see it's far from ideal.

I'll carry on playing and one day i'm sure i'll crack it, but jeez what a pain.

May be a good idea to suggest that anyone emailing you includes their UKTS username in their emails as well as their rean names amd email names.
That way you can PM them.

I regularly get emails from people I have never heard of, only to find they are UKTS people using their real name.

Hi,
As an update to my last post in this thread.
The notification about a reply to the thread went into Bulk/Spam even though UKTS is not on my spam list. It is however the first time I have posted on this subforum. I have marked it Not Spam. I'll see where the next notification goes.
I include this as cleverer people that me might see something in it.

I'll help you test Doug,

I have a BT E-Mail address too, but seem to get the notifications and the like without a hitch, but if it were to suddenly stop happening I have an E-Mail address that would bypass that ;) but still go to my BT Addy :D

Thanks, I received the notification of your post, but dispite having marked the last one "Not Spam" it went to the bulk spam folder again. I have remarked it "Not Spam" and will see what happens.

As I previously said, I have had no trouble up till now, maybe this exchange will help pin point something or it could be BT Yahoo changing the file wall management/spam marking or something similar (who knows).

The BIGGEST problem is that Yahoo introduced yet another AntiSpam measure back in December called "Greylisting". If an email arrives at the Yahoo mail server that is not in the Whitelist or Blacklist it goes in the Greylist. On the assumption that spammers send more than ONE spam email within a short space of time, the Greylist will see the second or successive email and then add the address to the blacklist.
If after 4 hours there has been no further email, the email is allowed through.
You can read all about this greylisting on the yahoo site.

We do greylisting here too... we also do the "penalty box".

One thing that bothers me, that I keep reading, is that it seems you need to set up this bloomin DomainKey thing (coincidentally a Yahoo invention) and for right now I just don't have time to get it sorted. I do have to check my SPF entry in the DNS record though, I remember doing one but it might have been for the work DNS and not Atomic... which won't help.

Well, that blows the SPF theory out of the water. It turns out I did put SPF records on the domains and they work absolutely perfectly using two or three different SPF testing tools around!

I've followed some of the recommendations, dropped the concurrent connections (system wide unfortunately) down from 10 to 2, and then increased all the retry times so the first retry isn't for an hour, then two hours later, then three hours later, then three hours later.

Let's see if it helps.

Hi Matt,

I have a BTInternet email account and I found that your renewal notice etc arrived in the BULK (SPAM) Folder.

The answer appears to be - move it from Bulk folder to Inbox, then add Address to Contacts. It is then educated to receive.

Nope, they'll just forward you to Yahoo's support I dare say.

To be honest, as i'm not a customer, there really is not a lot to be done - most ISP's won't bother to help those other companies trying to send mail to their servers in my experience.
