York - Newcastle route and period steam

General discussion about Rail Simulator that doesn't really fit in to any specific category. A good place to start if you're not sure what category it should fit in to as well.

York - Newcastle route and period steam

Post by OZINOZ »

Hi guys...
Not having RS as yet, my copy of the Us release is on order so it should only now be a couple of weeks, I was wondering about the York - Newcastle route. I have seen that Digitaltraction are planning a release of one of my favorite UK steam classes - the Gresley A4 (the A4's & the Coronations / Duchess' are it as far as Uk steam for me :) ) How out of place would period steam look on this route? Would there be much required to "knock it back a decade"? I know there is the S&D, but an A4 and string of coaches at full cry at 100mph just wouldn't look right would it :)

Great to see the after market developers getting on board... now for some US steam (and somewhere appropriate to run it :) )

Cheers

Wouldn't bother me none. I have run the available steam locos on all four routes so far since I could care less about running diesel or electric locos.

Not included in the US release, but it will be released as a pay addon.

I am glad the York - Newcastle add on (if you have purchased the US version) is to be a physical disc rather than a download (if the forum's to be believed), it is just that given my interest in steam, I was just hoping the route didn't or doesn't need too much work for the A4's and carriages etc to fit right in...

The route would be ok as it is,the track work didnt change much right up to the rebuild for electrification.

As for signals, the coloured lights on the route were introduced in the early 60s with plenty of steam still around.

Hi OZ,

All you need to do is to reskin all the stations in soot encrusted black. Back in the early 1960s, Darlington and Newcastle were so black you could not see the brickwork or stonework at all.
