You're the third person to complain about slow download speeds IKB - and all three are using Freeserve. I have no clue what's going on but if someone using Freeserve could:
a) tell me that it works good for them (to invalidate the theory)
b) send me a traceroute so I can see where the blockage is
We are experiencing network problems ourselves - I haven't been able to even see the server since 9pm this evening (nearly 11pm now) so something very screwed up is going on.
If I can get that traceroute from someone (email me for details how to do it if you don't know) I can use that to wrap around verio's neck (assuming it's their problem).

I am on freeserve - it was a bit sluggish earlier - 4.5 k/s rather than 6.5, but of course I decide to run the tests for you and it's fine, xtracks coming down at 7.3 k/s at the moment.
IKB, are you on freeserve anytime? If so I suggest you try a different number - I find the 0808 ones generally dodgy so have gone back to the non-fraico 1616.... no (still not chargable by BT). FS don't like you doing this, and occasionally email you telling you off, but it doesn't seem to be a "cutting off" offence - if they don't like it they should improve the service on the 0808 numbers!)
(if you want the full nos PM me, or search for the freeserve anytime unofficial FAQ)

The server got rebooted as part of the fracas with it being invisible to us for nearly 2 hours (though it might have been visible other places, who knows! - we could certainly see it from another machine in the UK that wasnt on the same net as us) this also would have reset the download server.
So, if download speeds drop again can you let me know as this would indicate that there is a slowdown problem either in the download server or the machine itself (more likely my download server), and then I can investigate from there!
Matt.

Matt,
This is becoming REALLY annoying. Tonight after Real Download gave up with 0 kb downloaded I got
"Each user is allowed up to 7680 Kilobytes per day.
You have only got 1444 Kilobytes remaining today and this is not sufficient for the file you have selected to download."
I don't know who had the other kb but I never saw them!
