If you had ever travelled in one of these you would know they only have four wheels - ride quality?latimers wrote:Aha, now I look very carefully I can see wheels. I was expecting two axles, i.e. four wheels per bogie but I guess there is only one axle, i.e. two wheels. Is that correct? If I kneel down between the tracks I can see a wheel on each side, with the right wheel on the rail and the left wheel inside of and below the top of the rail.

My railway photos are now on Google + - links to the albums are in this thread http://forums.uktrainsim.com/viewtopic. ... 9&t=149558
Lots of steam and early diesels from 1959 to 1963.

Well I can see all wheels on the rails, except at one side the flange is on the wrong side. ( on the outside of the rail instead of the inside. ) But I can live with that.
Great work as ever James.

The story goes that we were supposed to trial "Sprinters" in North America with the possibility of some sales, but somehow we managed to send a "Pacer".alanch wrote:If you had ever travelled in one of these you would know they only have four wheels - ride quality?latimers wrote:Aha, now I look very carefully I can see wheels. Wonder why we never got the sale.
Bob, the original prototype was built from Leyland bus parts fitted atop of a rail chassis.

The follow on from that was the Class 141.

The prototype was dumped at the back of Holbeck shed for years, and I saw it there often.chrisiveson wrote:Bob, the original prototype was built from Leyland bus parts fitted atop of a rail chassis.

There's a photo of one of the 141s in green and cream on my site here http://alan-lewis-chambers.fotopic.net/p24354943.html . I often travelled on them from Burley Park, on the old Leeds Northern Harrogate line, into Leeds, and usually regretted it after arriving pretty well shaken but not stirred.

I travelled into Leeds from Knottingley on the 141's on a regular basis and it was difficult to decide which was the roughest ride, the bus, or the bus on rails. ( but they did fit plenty of grab handles )

Re: Pace Yourself
BR Provincial 142's and 143's would be great! How about a sectorisation pack from the late 1980's-1990's? I'm thinking of Regional Railways, GMPTE Red and Grey, early Merseyrail livery, etc.

Re: Pace Yourself
Would personally love to see a WR Choc & cream one, reminds me of my first holiday in Devon back in 1987 and seeing my first WR one (142024) in Exeter St Davids, finished all bar 2 during that week on the Exmouth branch (and got one of the remining 2 the following week on my way to Blackpool as the move northwards had just started!!).
Cheers!
Cheers!

Re: Pace Yourself
OK, just to post a bit of progress
The Photo Below shows the BR Cream Versions
On the Top row we have 142016 (Exeter), 142020 (Paignton) and 142021 (Penzance)
Below we Have the Heaton Variants. 142025 (Middlesborough), 142521 (Sunderland), 142519 (Newcastle)

Click the image to zoom in
and on the Neville Hill front we have 142075 for Huddersfield with an updated weathered roof

Click the image to zoom in
If all goes to plan, the Western Region cream and Heaton Cream versions should be ready for upload either tomorrow or friday with the Neville Hill Provincial ones next week.
Then some time for some 143s
