Why wont MSTS Run

Post by Pete92 »

Hello. Just this week I have repurchased MSTS. When ive installed it it will either get to the first menu and when i click on somthing it will freeze. Or it will load up and after the loading page it will get to a black screen and freeze. Can anyone tell me whats wrong with it and is there away i can fix it. It isnt the disks as it worked fine on my friends computer. I have reinstalled it a couple of times and its the same problem. The only addon I did have installed was Swanage and I deleted all the files off the MSTS file. I did not un install it properly could this be the problem?

Yes this could probably be the problem. Insert Disc 1. If the Uninstall option is highlighted click on this and see what happens. If it is not highlighted, it means that Train Sim is not installed. It may be that you still have the old Microsoft Train Simulator Folder showing in Program Files.
Remove the Disc, then go into Program Files, look for Microsoft Games and delete this Folder to the Recycle Bin, then dump it from there.

Then insert Disc 1 and click on Install which should be highlighted. once installed from both discs, Download the Update Patch from

http://www.train-sim.com

From opening page, click on Microsoft Train simulator, then from second page, third paragraph down
Update Patch For Microsoft Train Simulator, click on the highlighted here in blue. Save this download patch in case you need it again. Then try running train simulator. You should be able to run it without Disc 1 being in your Rom Drive.

If you installed the Swanage addon, chance are you had an outof date tsection.dat file. The one which comes with th original install of msts wouldnt be good enough to run Swanage. Try downloading and installing the latest from the link on the front page, and keep a copy of it somewhere safe so that every time you add a new route you copy it over again.

It shouldnt be necessary to reinstall msts, it should be possible to fix the errors which have probably crept in after the other route was installed.

That sounds like your'e trying to install Bin, if a previous try has left the bin backup folders you'll have to delete those.
Or you haven't patched the Train.exe to 1.4 using the Microsoft update.
