6 Months on and still under construction.
I purchased 2 Digitrax DS64 controllers each can control 4 points (or switches as it is a US railroad) - Luckily I had 8 on the layout.
The foam base is proving very easy to work with, solid and light.
I drilled through holes for the wires then cut small channels to run them to the main bus.
The wires from the points are channelled to the controllers.
Eventually this will all be covered with duck tape.
The controllers take power from the main bus and there are 4 track connection points
I love the simplicity of DCC, just 2 wires leave the layout on one end.
On the other side I have glued the points and power connectors to the base, the rest of the Kato track can still be removed so the layout is still quite transportable.
The "stream" was cut out and sanded smooth. I then painted the surface with watered down PVA and sprinkled on sand.
When dry I removed the excess and painted with dull brown exterior paint. This has given a lovely rough solid surface to work with.
