ALERTER

General discussion about Rail Simulator that doesn't really fit in to any specific category. A good place to start if you're not sure what category it should fit in to as well.

I don't think UK trains have an alerter system, but just wait for the N.A. release, because North American trains have an Alerter system. With the N.A. release you should be able to implement an Alerter system into any locos you build.

The uk trains have AWS an TWPS. I was talking about the North American style alerter system. Where an alarm will ring every 15 seconds and you have to reset it.

Modern UK trains are fitted with a similar system (called Vigilance). The timing is different to the american system. Also the operation of certain controls (brake/power handle/AWS reset) will automatically reset the system time delay and there is no alert. Therefore, if controls are regularly used then it is assumed that the driver is still "functioning" and therefore no system intervention is necessary. If the alarm buzzer goes off, the only way to reset it is to operate one of the previously mentioned controls, within about 3 seconds (there is no specific vigilance reset button). Failure to do this will result in loss of traction power and an emergency brake application.
The only models currently in RS fitted with this equipment in real life are the HST and the 166 DMU.

In Spain this system is called "Hombre Muerto" (Dead Man) :D

If the alarm is ignored the system applies the emergency brake.
This avoids accidents in case that driver feels sick or he is already fully dead

Bye, bye.

The driver actually has to keep a pedal under the desk depressed while the vehicle is "keyed in". If the vigilance alarm is activated then the driver needs to release the pedal then re-depress it to cancel.

This resets the vigilence alarm.

It is not fitted to all UK rolling stock as stated but most 'new' stuff - the only units that I know of around here are the 142's, they have the pedal which needs to be depressed but are not (or weren't when I worked with them) fitted with the vigilence device.

Yes, i remember a GNER hst driver demonstrating all the controls of the train, though i do regret not asking him if i could pump some clag (put the throttle up a bit in neutral)lol, though he did a nice horn thing and gave the departure some ooomph, there is no other sound like a paxman valenta hst, GNER were great, i remember i went to york but the train home was a virgin, and i had a burger which was awful and the train was filthy and GNER gave us a free return trip to york and a letter of apology, i almost felt as if i should be the one apologising to them, the GNER staff were always nice..... i miss GNER already  wooof that is a bit off topic..erm well i hope a patch come out soon to fix all the probs
