I have been trying to export a simple 3dcanvas building to my route
When I export it and run the asset editor, everything seems to be ok untill I click preview, then I get the send, dont snd window and it shuts down.
Is there a comrehensive tutuorial on exporting items into asset editor and the proper places to put the files. In my Source folder I have my new route set up as such
Source\CecKerr\Selkirks. In the Selkirks folder is 2 more folders,Seriesmarker and Namedmarkers folders. If I want to export a building do I set up another folder called Buildings and put a folder called Textures in it.? Do I export the 3dcanvas .igs file to the Buildings folder and the the .bmp files to the textures folder and then run ToAce?? There was a pictorial instruction on how to export a toolstore by Ian that I followed but it still crashes on me. Any help would be appreciated as I am getting realy frustrated with this exporting bit.Making a new route and putting in the marker files was a piece of cake, much easier than MSTS,but this has me bafffled

Re: problems exporting a building using Asset editor
Don't create your building in your route folder, it could be used elsewhere. Create a new folder:
Source\CecKerr\Scenery\Buildings
Put the .IGS model in there. Create a 'textures' subfolder and put the .BMP file(s) in there. Run ToAce on the textures, then create the building template.
In my tutorial here you see I have a route folder called BMR, but the hut is under the separate 'Scenery' folder. Since I did the tutorial, Richard has modified the 3D Canvas export so the textures should now be in a 'textures' sub-folder.
Good Luck.

Hi Ian
I just finished trying to export your toolstore again. I set it up the way you said also I have your tutorial sitting on my desktop.Asset editor sill crashes when I press the preview button, but when I go in to my route the concrete toolstore shows up under misc items . I click on it and all I get is a gizmo,no toolstore..
What should I be putting in the blueprint ID lines??

Re: problems exporting a building using Asset editor
Set the values exactly as in the tutorial picture. If you set the 'Category' field, it should not end up in Miscellaneous. Save and Export before trying to Preview. IIt may help if you delete the files in the Asset folder and the previewer folder before exporting, so the Asset Manager has to recreate everything from the Source.

Re: problems exporting a building using Asset editor
I created a simple building in 3D Canvas 7.0.4.2 and exported it to IGS file. I created the folders like this:
C:\Program Files\Rail Simulator\Source\jeffmorris\scenery\buildings\ <- I think that it may not be right.
I put the IGS file under buildings subfolder and the ACE file under buildings\textures folder.
I can see the building in the preview window but I can't see the building in the object list in Rail Simulator. I called the building "Sample Building" and set the 'Category' field to "Generic Buildings".

Don't forget that in the Route Editor, you need to click on Object Filter (blue bow with orange arrow) then select yourself and your models in the panel on the right. Then they should appear in the list of objects.

Have you enabled the display of your items in the editor?
If Not click the blue block with the play button and select your stuff from the drop down list.
A filtering tool that was badly needed in MSTS

Re: problems exporting a building using Asset editor
Hi Ian
I finally got it exported. I am 74 years old and is not unusual for me to a 2 or 3 brain cramps a day..... I kept making the same mistake over and over again in the asset editor. Once I figured out what I was doing wrong,it worked like a charm
many thanks for your help and patience.
