KRS Route Template tool

Post by jkxx74 »

After spending a week banging my head against the wall trying to use the asset editor and get a proper route template going I finally figured it out today. The KRS route template helper was born out of this effort and seeks to spare the end user any interaction with the dreader asset editor or from editing incomprehensible xml files. This version simply asks for longitude, latitude, and a name and does the rest.

I hope this tool will be useful to those who have been frustrated by the above. If you are interested, it can be downloaded from
http://jkansoft.mine.nu/krs/rt.zip

(The program only requires .NET and works under both XP and Vista, provided it is run as admin under Vista)

Comments and suggestions are welcome.

Great minds think alike - I added the ability to make Route Templates and Marker templates to my RS_Tools today as well.

Mike, that's great! Let's make sure everyone sees this and updates their RS Tools accordingly (I will be).

I don't know if this is the right place to raise this query but here goes! I'm trying to build my first route - simply Bangor Station in the 50's - but am having problems with it even though I'm trying to follow the excellent guidance from you guys out there. I'm trying to use Mike Simpson's RS Tools and seemed to get everything to work under Vista. I deleted a few trial routes I'd set up and created my developer folder and sub-folders. When I go back into RS Tools everything seems to be ok and all the files I created are still there and all the routes I deleted have gone but when I look for these created files in Explorer they are not there! Furthermore the routes I tried to delete are still there when I go into RS. What am I doing wrong? I've tried the same approach with Windows XP on another hard disc on my PC but this time I get an error message (code 75 I think). From my research on the XP problem it could related to "read-only" files. I've unchecked the relevant boxes on file properties only to find that when I return to RS the "read-only" box is checked again! I'm stuck therefore!

Hi Llew,

Under Vista, depending upon your security settings, files in the Program Files folder are read only by default. You could try running RS_Tools as Administrator and see if that enables you to delete things correctly.

Not sure why people are finding it so difficult, I just followed what was in the developers docs and my template was ready to create a route out of in 20mins. So then I went and tried creating weather which i couldn't find docs for.

Only thing I didn't manage was to create my own rain and snow texture nor figure out how to use the RailSimulatorCore ones.

Mike
Thanks for your help. I followed your advice and have now managed to set up a new route using your excellent RS Tools. Just have to build it now!!

I didn't have to change the files from "Read-Only" either but I did have to follow your advice as follows:

"Then go to your Desktop Start button and in the RUN box type
regsvr32.exe comdlg32.ocx
Click OK and you should see a message to the effect that
comdlg32.ocx has been registered.
Then do the same typing regsvr32.exe Richtx32.ocx"

I had to right click on "Command Prompt" to ensure that I performed this task as Administrator.

Thanks again and best wishes

But what do you do when you get "The module "Richtx32.ocx" was loaded but the call to DLLResisterServer failed with error code 0x8002801c"??

I'm no expert by any means but it seems that if you are using Vista you should open up everything as Administrator (including Command Prompt). Once I was given that advice everything worked OK.
