Do a search for Cambrian 2 this has been discussed to the Nth degree. At $2 to the £ at the moment and including postage I think £24.50 for this route is outstanding value.

Well Cambrian 2 probably has the same mileage of track, was obviously built to a standard rather than a deadline, probably as much stock, comes with activities that work, runs on a sim that's fully supported by the community...which in turn has produced dozens of additional models of the right companies and era and is already writing activities for it.......what on Earth do you want for £24.50?

I've just come back from a garden centre where they're selling concrete (mock stone) bird baths that aren't very good, very big or very well made (knocked out in molds for a start) and they want £24.50 for those!!!!

According to the 3DTS site, it's $32 from them or £16 inc worldwide shipping. Doesn't sound bad to me.

Not sure where you're looking (maybe Swanage)?........ says $48.95 which ignoring the favourable exchange rate, and no VAT is a little pricy.
However it is a complete route, unlike EB who now continually split a route into chunks. ECML could cost you £72.
On the other hand you do get a proper manual and box.
So basically if you want it you'll have to spend the money.

Now that's been established, I must admit that $48 for an update of a previous route that costs $32 does seem a bit steep. But hay, maybee this is just illustrating how CHEAP all the UKTS Community CDs are and i'ts not like they are any less in quality.

It is far more than an update, more like a major re-build. Martin and the team have taken it back to the 1950's with all the missing sidings and depots added (compared to Cambrian 1). It has also been effectively doubled in length by an eastwards extension.

Indeed, C2 does have a great deal more by the looks of it. However, if I owned C1, I think I would feel a bit peved at having to pay that. Do they offer a discount to existing C1 customers?

Why should they? Did EuropeanBahn give discount to buyers of London - Brighton, Brighton - Portsmouth when they brought out London South Coast - No is the answer and again Why should they? There was no uproar when that happened; so why the problems with Cambrian 2!
I have virtually all the Comercial British offerings and a lot of the Freeware British Routes and a lot of these overlap but I enjoy both in the main!

1. Cambrian 2 is largely a complete rebuild with very little of the original remaining (although we've obviously re-used some of the same artwork. Much of the original section has been rebuilt using new or improved models and there's a lot more detail. Indeed, even the track has been re-laid in many places. East of Machynlleth is completely new. The route now extends to Shrewsbury and Oswestry and includes the branchlines to Kerry, Llanfyllin and Llangynog.

2. If you work out how many miles of track you get for your $ or £, it is pretty good value for money compared to most other UK commercial routes (including our own Swanage route). In fact, the extras on their own would more than justify a £24 price tag. I won't even begin to comment on what people pay for a single aircraft add-on for Flight sim.

3. The route is the result of nearly 4 years of work, so from the developer's point of view £24 doesn't come anywhere near compensating for the effort. Fortunately, this is a hobby and being part of a great team building one of my favourite routes was reward in itself.

I'm actually tempted to delete all of the above, because to be honest I don't think I need to justify the price to anyone. Those who are willing to pay get to enjoy the route, while those who aren't don't. Penny or bun, you decide!

C2 is a beauty - worth it solely for the climb out of Mach...... have spent hours on it and recommend it heartily.....
