PC Gamer (UK) RS Review
Just a heads up that the PC Gamer review of Rail Simulator is in their Xmas edition. Not a huge article (not surprising given the same issue is covering Crysis) but the game fared better than it might have done. The inevitable asides about anoraks and engine spotters abound, the main criticism is the lack of scenarios or variety/change in those supplied. UKTS gets an honourable mention too. They gave it 70% which is actually 20 more than Sim City Societies which only got 50%.

50% for Sim City Societies? I guess I'm not surprised. I briefly got excited about a new iteration of Sim City until I read about what the developers had planned. It sounded awful.bigvern wrote:Just a heads up that the PC Gamer review of Rail Simulator is in their Xmas edition. 70% isn't a bad score I suppose. It's probably pretty fair.

While looking over the reviews there, I came across another one that promises:
1 Highly detailed track systems with full and narrow gauge options
2 Large selection of accurately modeled engines, wagons, & other rolling stock
3 Realistic controls with speed & breaking regulation
4 Signal controls with click active light, driver signals, & level crossings
5 Multiple rail types with buffers & points
6 Complex viewing system with movable cameras, adjustable angles, & chase views
7 Physics engine for realistic weather & environmental conditions
8 3D Sound engine with Doppler effects and ambient background sounds
9 Freight transport with loading of movable goods
10 Updated construction module for even larger and more complex layouts
11 New function for creating own AVI films
All for only $18.99.

Given how informed the media is when it comes to trains, we should not pinpoint RSD to deliver everything on that list. E.g., the "click active light" on "signal controls" sounds interesting.
<idiot mode on>Wow, the US version will have a signalbox view included!<idiot mode off>
Btw. could you give a reference? Over time, a list of media which review KRS will be collected, alas in different thread, so we would see who review is and who ignores train simming.

Ah, that would be the EEP that trashed my PC when it crashed and took my O/S with it...
The concept is good though more model orientated than the other sims.
