General discussion about Rail Simulator that doesn't really fit in to any specific category. A good place to start if you're not sure what category it should fit in to as well.
I was about to rush out and order a copy of this new simulator, but after reading just about everything on this forum i am now inclined to treat this with the same wait and see attitude myself and thousands have towards $Windows Vista. That is to say, too many problems and not worth the money until it has been around for 6 - 12 months and Kuju get rid of the major issues of the software.
I remember it taking quite some time for MSTS to get over its major problems, ( in fact we still have issues today ) but i have found that if i only install mainly commercial addons and Community CD routes i have far less issues with the sim. and get the added bonus of another months membership for each Community CD.
So hopefully, by the time EA remember that there are fans of train sims. down in Australia as well as the rest of the world, we may just get a decent working version of what looks to be a huge improvement over MSTS. Even when we do i will still be keeping MSTS while it will still run and as a testament to all you guys out there who have so unselfishly put thousands of hours producing all the content we can download or purchase. A huge thank you to all of you, your skills continue to amaze me.
I respect your decision Derek but the more people who have the game the more incentive there is to fix the issues. The game works well, there are many problems but the game is good if you have a decent computer. If you have any doubts download the demo, thats probably the best way of deciding whether to get it.
No - they don't have the same title - look closely - this one starts with RE: like email replies do.
The other topic has been made into a sticky to keep it at the top of the forum. This one will no doubt get locked at some point when the usual nastiness starts to flow. At that point it will sink down the forums into obscurity.
I appreciate that this might be unsound ground, but I have some sympathies with people who have bought the game only to find it doesn't live up to their expectations, or won't run on their computers. They have very few options left to them: buy an new computer or upgrade, sell the game on ebay at a loss, or just wait impatiently for fixes to come from RSDL. The forums here do give them a chance to vent their spleen, and who knows, perhaps after having done so they might feel like giving it a second chance?
However, I myself am getting weary of watching posts degenerate into gripes that sometimes mean very little to me. I suggested a while ago that there was a sub-forum created that would operate like the room with a straw dummy that some Japanese companies are reputed to operate, in which people can get rid of some of their pent-up anger. Why not move such threads into a forum where the users can at least feel that they are allowed to complain without being shut out or censored? Then at least those who wish to read or write negative views can do so without feeling that they are going to be shut up by an "I'm alright Jack" attitude. And those of us who want to continue to use RS will at least get an initial view of any fresh concerns being raised by newcomers that we either haven't come across, or know a fix for.
As I said, I have sympathies with the disgruntled users. My first day and a half with the program wasn't a happy time, and I was one of those who clicked on the poll button saying that I was going to remove it from my machine. Having made that gesture, I felt a little less tense, and have subsequently come to enjoy the program, even with the current crop of faults it has.

In terms of having a 'spleen vent' room, rightly or wrongly, the TruckPol forums operate one (which they call 'Road Rage'). It is password protected so people dont inadvertantly go into it. Not sure how they prevent minors from getting the password though.
However, the TruckPol room is used for general gripes about life. Im not sure many people use it to moan about software. There is the worry that if the companies who produce sims (which with a few exceptions seem to be SMEs) see such a room get lots of views and posts (even if they dont actually go in and read stuff), they might just stop bothering. And who could blame them if the issues raised were not constructive!
