DEDICATED MSTS NARROW GAUGE FORUM???

Post by andrewgadd »

I have spent the weekend looking at purchasing some web hosting space and messing around with some simple message boards/forums.
I have come across a very good freeware installation indeed, which allows for some interesting uses.
This new forum would be attached to the Bodgit & Scarper site and would be more focused on narrow gauge, although there aren’t that many of us on the UK TrainSim forum we only get one forum to ourselves.
The Bodgit & Scarper forum could have categories dedicated to narrow gauge model builders, route builders or even individual routes etc... In fact, what ever we feel like!!!
Most importantly of all, the style of forum that I’m looking at allows for individual uploads (if I’m paying for the host there will be a great deal of unused space and bandwidth), this means that photos can be uploaded to the Bodgit & Scarper site by the user for easy viewing or even files of various stuff we are working on (need to determine a sensible file size), but don’t wish to go to the lengths of adding files to the UK TrainSim library.

I, for one, have reams of stuff which I would upload if it was as easy as attaching a file to a forum post.
What do people think, would you like to give it a try?
Andrew, CME.

I would certainly give it a try Andrew, I'm really thinking of restarting my Re-Skinning and activity writing but all of that gets lost on these forums as people post SG things in the two other areas ;) and the ability to have files attatched to posts is interesting :D

It is Bazza,

Being able to have a specific site to say what you're working on/testing is going to be brilliant, and the B&SE NG Forums should be a more controlled Environment than this area, I nearly lost sight of this one when the forum change happened, and You'll notice that Andrew and I are already there testing the Forums for you :D they include a few features that are different to here but once they go live We'll explain them to you!
Hope to see people there soon (ish)

For those that are interested, the new forum is HERE please note that if you do not receive a confirmation E-Mail within the alloted time then please PM me here! (not Andrew as he may be out) and I'll see if I can sort out your Password and other things, (My username there is slightly wrong, I forgot the I so don't get confused :D) At present we (Andrew and I) are working on the rules of the Forum but would appreciate it if you kept thing civil i.e. no swearing, flaming or undue criticism. (Constructive criticism however would be welcome ;)) This new forum is only in the early stages and at the present time contains Andrew and my inane posts to test the system, please bear with us with these as we will slowly remove them once everything is fully working.

One other point, route builders, if we are asked nicely, will be able to have their own sub forum to discuss the progress (or lack of in my case) of their routes, to activate this they will need to contact either Andrew or myself and we'll set the sub-forum up.

Please feel free to tr the Link Removed as it is out of Date Thank you.

We've had a few issues recently with users not being able to access the boards, this has turned out to be related to your browser.

If you find you cannot access our Narrow Gauge Forum may I suggest that you download and install the Firefox Browser.

It is really very good and I can throughly recommend it.
I had to switch to it to set up the board!!!

The B&SE Narrow Gauge Forum site now has a Download Library where users can upload and download MSTS related files.
This is not intended as a snub to UKTrainSim, indeed Matt has given us his approval, but as a place where users can discuss and store their own narrow gauge "stuff" without it getting lost in the vastness of UKTrainSim.

Come and have a browse and if you want leave your mark.............

I am in the process of uploading all of my files to the B&SE Narrow Gauge Forum (no queuing for our files) and will shortly be adding an update to the P.Lt.Rly. there also.

Following a major database problem with the B&SE Narrow Gauge Forum, I have had to move the board back to it first location.....

http://forum.bodgit-scarper.com

The database error was partly of my own making but a very important discovery was made. Namely, that of not being able to get the server to accept a database import.....
The moral of this story is "FREE" internet hosts are free for a reason!!!!

Luckily, my host at http://www.bodgit-scarper.com would accept a database import and although all did not go smoothly, we are now up and running again.
Oddly enough, I only moved the board away from this old address because Captain Bazza couldn't access it.
Sorry Bazza.

Another benefit of the move back to the original server is the board is faster, you get what you pay for.......

One more thing. The board cookies have changed and you may need to delete your old ones to login.

Thanks and sorry if this has caused you any problems.
