Route Downloads [Updated Version 1.0]

General discussion about Rail Simulator that doesn't really fit in to any specific category. A good place to start if you're not sure what category it should fit in to as well.

Mmm.... I don't know. I have tested the route myself from the menu and it works and other people say it works. I will double check the terrain.

Any updates ? I am keen to have a look at this. I have downloaded it again and totally reinstalled RS but don't seem to be able to make it work unlike the updates from RSDL and the unofficial patches uploaded here. Clearly there is something wrong with it if it can't work on a vanilla install of RS.

Kindest regards

I am really not sure. Over 120 have downloaded it and you are the first saying it doesn't work. I will do a complete repackage later and double check that the correct files are included.

Version 0.3b install is out. This adds no more Route Features but has an easy to read Install.txt like I have seen on the other route available, Mike Simpsons code is correct the output file just doesn't explain it well enough for some people, but the code is 100% correct so I have continued to use it.

Had the same problem - turned out I'd unzipped it wrong somehow and ended up with a folder-within-a-folder. Once I sorted that out it worked OK - keep up the good work!

Thanks, version 0.3c which you can download has a much easier install routine which will continue to be done. Version 0.4 this weekend. If anyone can get some good screenshots (mine appear too dark) then please post.

Thanks for your patience while I sorted out the install problems.

Got this version to work. Don't like kettles so put a 47 down next to the kettle but could not make the points change in front of me. Eventually gave up and drove the steamer out of the station until I hit a trailing point and derailed.

Looks like a nice route but not sure about your "licence.txt". I don't think you can licence any of that route for "commercial sale" with a slice of the profits as you request since you are using RSDL assets. According to their FAQ on the website you need to talk to them about that.
licence.txt wrote:4.) Commercial use. I am happy for the route to be sold under the following conditions:

a.) I MUST be told that the route will be up for sale.
b.) I MUST have a prearranged percentage of the profit, (Please E-mail me to arrange).

Not going to try your route as you've still not answered my e-mail as to why your "route remover" doesn't work. It won't even run. As I wrote you, I get an error message to the effect that route uninstaller has "encountered an error and must shut down......".

I've tried downloading and installing it twice (That's 'two times for our American friends) and each time I get the error message.

How can I trust your routes?

I don't believe he made the Route Remover, it's just available to download at his site.
Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

That's right, crazy American on board, be nice or I'll throw all your tea in the harbor and spell harbour wrong while I do it. And I know the definition of "twice".

rogertra, whad'ya want, your money back? As a freeware developer myself (Port Ogden & Northern) I find this attitude amusing, you want perfection from me you gotta actually pay for it. Complaints about KRS route installs should be sent to EA/KUJU/RDS/whatever they're calling themselves this week, they're the ones who came up with this silly clumsy routes.xml file.

Installation of addon routes hopefully will become easier with the dev tools, but for now the dependencies;

\Rail Simulator\Content\routes.xml file lists the route names and their associated folder names. That's all it does, but to make this work all that code has to be added to the routes.xml file to point to the \Rail Simulator\Content\Routes\65d5dfed-82a4-4d93-87b8-3be65b7b756f (or whatever the folder name is). That will list the route and go to that folder, if the folder does not exist it will create it as a new route. Those of you getting flat green grass have missed copying the actual route folder in, so the sim generated a new route with that folder name. If I create a new route and call it KUJU Kludge, then copy the files and folders from 65d5dfed-82a4-4d93-87b8-3be65b7b756f into that one, I get the Cross Country route with a different name, KUJU Kludge.

M!$t@keS are inevitable with freeware, that includes Mike Simpson's utilities and the other guy's route remover tool. Freeware by definition is created by amatuer hackers like myself as a spare time hobby, so it doesn't always work. No apologies from me, I pay cash money to companies like Microsoft and get stuff that don't work right anyway. Hopefully most of you made a backup copy of your routes.xml file before hacking, if the uninstall utilities are not working for you replace the routes.xml with the backup and then delete all but the default routes (00000001 etcetera thru 00000004 etcetera), back to what you had. Compared to MSTS the Railsim route editor is very easy to use, so expect many more addon routes to have problems because those creating them are not always gonna be computer savvy. Yelling at them ain't gonna help, it will only discourage people from sharing their stuff. I'm not the shy timid type, but god knows how many bashfuls created stunning routes and never shared them because they were afraid of Gilbert Gimmee screaming at them if he couldn't get it to work.

Sniper, just a quick message to let you know how impressed I was with Port Ogden. How did you create the models, or is all the scenery default stuff?

Doctor, I had fun with Cross Country too. Both routes very promising IMHO.

All default, last I heard they haven't hammered out how to import any 3D models yet. Be advised current versions of PO&N are more of a proof-of-concept alpha than a beta, gonna trash the hell out of it with all my mad scientist experiments to see how much I can get away with, then start over from scratch for the actual route. Lot of these development Q&A are answered over at the Yankee Doodle train-sim.com, in the KRS forum. Come on over and take a look, we do speak something that resembles English here in the colonies.
