Cannot reinstall MSTS.....

Hi everyone,

I have had MSTS running superbly for months now, with ECE 1, 2 & 3, Great Eastern, and Scottish Central loaded.

Had no issues at all.

Then I bought West Coast Express, I installed it yesterday, all appeard to go great, however when I tried to run MSTS today, I get no Text in the launch Screen.

I had plenty of time so I thought "oh well I will reinstall MSTS and try it again".

Deleted MSTS, from Control Panel, then found as much as possible left over and reinstalled.

I get the same thing;





Yes, I know I should have done a Back-Up, trust me I will in future.....lol


Any idea's what I missed.?

That looks like a registry error

If you are familiar with editing your Windows Registry use regedit to delete all the trainsimulator keys and make sure your trainsimulator folder and all sub folders are deleted as well. Then do a reboot and try again

Too many consists can overload MSTS, one of the symptoms can be missing text.
By adding another route complete with activities, and consists you maybe pushed it too far.
By installing Train Store and running it first, you only load the consists you need, therefore the text could (should) return.

Well I deleted everything AGAIN, went into Registry, removed everything that I could see for MSTS.

Ran a Registry Cleaner.

Rebooted, re-installed and.........Same result........

This is frustrating.

If I install to another drive, might that fix it.?

When you say uninstall do you mean via the control panel add and remove software?
You then should look in programme files and manally delete the whole train sim folder, as the auto uninstaller doesn't remove all the 'extra' routes you've added.

If you want to uninstall MSTS the best way I have found is to use the uninstaller in MSTS. To do this I put the No1 CD in my CD rom and it comes up with 4 boxes one is add/remove use this and it will uninstall.
Then go to the MST folder and delete the bits it has left behind. When you have reinstalled MSTS install the latest T-section 37. The latest ms bin, X-tracks, Newroads, Uk Finscale, Train Store ( for me this is a must). Then reinstall your routes. Also what I always do is to go to the MSTS folder and look for launcher and change video driver and it will do a profiling.
Then do a reboot.

Hopefully you have got sorted with the advice given above, I would just like to suggest to you that if you are installing 'Add on' Routes such as ECE 1, 2 & 3, Great Eastern, and Scottish Central, it is essential that you use Train Store (IMO) or you will have increasing problems. I'd suggest running Train Store in 'Easy' mode first to get the hang of things and then progress as you go along.

It will greatly reduce your P/C loading times for MSTS as it only loads the files you require to run the Route and Activity you select and stores the rest of your files until needed.

Instal it and you will never look back.

Thanks for all the suggestions, I tried several attempts yesterday and had come to the conclusion that a new XP install was going to be the only way forward....

I will try the idea of using Disc 1 and uninstall, that is a new one.
I did delete the Train Sim Folder after deleting from Add & Remove progams, then deleted everything I could find in the registry, then ran 3 different Registry cleaner (paranoid or what....lol), then did a reboot.

I found a full copy of my Train Sim Folder that I had saved about 3 weeks ago on a DVD, tried to run from DVD, got the SAME screens. Did not bother copying this back up, as my theory is, if it does not work from the DVD then it will not work on the PC.
So I did another installation and got the same thing again.....lol

This is crazy because I know I have deleted and re-installed before.

Anyway, I will try the idea of the CD in the drive and report back.

OK, latest updates;

Inserted Disc #1 in drive, Chose uninstall, it cannot uninstall as there is no MSTS on the PC.

So, confident that it's not there, I install it......

When loaded, clicked on Setup, so I can set screen res etc. I do not go to the Setup Options screen but to the Play and 3 other choices screen (Sorry can't remember what they were but it was the same style menu you get when installation is complete). Choose RUN, everything looks normal until I get to the launch screen, my first picture in this thread, again no text.

So, I uninstall using Disc #1. Says it is finished.
Look on "C" drive, no entry under Microsoft Games, thats good.

Decide to check Registry, 2 entries under;
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Microsoft Games

So I delete them, one was Train Simulator, other was Train Simulator Tools, I think....

That is where I am right now.

Is there anything else I need to look for.?

Before I reinstall XP.....lol

Hiya all - just put a ATI HD 3870 into my PC, and have suffered the same thing as above. Un-installed, run the reg-cleaners to deal with rogue entries, and re-installed, only to get no text and very ordinary graphics (though I can't change the resolution as I can't find the tab!!!) - any further advice on what I can do resolve this??

I re-installed Xp then MSTS and the same thing.

After much head scratching, I downloaded some of the older versions of the Video Card Drivers and installed them one by one to test them.

After going back to a vesion that was 7 months old, I got my text back and MSTS was able to run again.

However, it runs so bad I am thinking of getting a second PC just for MSTS as I spend so much time playing with settings it is unbelievable.

So I would roll back the Video Drivers, if you have the newest ones I am guessing that is the problem.

Thanks for replying - that's not a great state of affairs is it! Will have a look and see what's available, but as it's a new card, I'm guessing there won't be many "old" drivers....
