Front Coupling

General discussion about Rail Simulator that doesn't really fit in to any specific category. A good place to start if you're not sure what category it should fit in to as well.

Front Coupling

Post by choccy »

I've been experimenting coupling and uncoupling in free roam, but only on S&D so far.
Uncoupling and recoupling to the brake van took place satisfactorily, but when I tried to front couple the Black 5 to the 7F I had no joy. I tried at various speeds, one being so fast that the front end of the Black 5 lifted off the track. The sim never crashed but nor did the locos couple, whether set to manual or auto mode.
Anyone else tried this and with what results?

Try coupling a MKII carriage to a MKIII.... Watch the mess
Try coupling a german carriage to a german coal hopper. That causes a game crash for me.

i wonder if any of this is to do with the 3d coupling - the most stupid feature i can imagine, only requested by the 10 year old users who requested everything under the sun and no doubt causes huge problems as it cant be done properly - there's no slack apparantly (modelling that in a 3 link coupling x 50 mineral wagons would be crippling) and for new models getting it to work will be 'fun' im sure.... i hope its removed.

The front coupler on the 7F doesn't work!
I've just spent 30 mins trying to get it to couple up with some coaches with no joy. Substitute the Black 5 and that works ok.

I have made a short mile long route with run round loops at either end. I can initially couple the 7f to the train but when I run round...as you do on the real railways!!! it wont couple....so I kinda think we may be right back where we started with MTS
As Victor Meldrew said.....I don't believe it!

Try making a consist with the 7f running in reverse, with a coach coupled to the front of it. Then uncouple the 7f from the coach and watch as the 7f jumps into the air backwards by about 8 feet!

The Black 5 seems to work ok, so I guess this should be very easy to put right.

I quiclky knocked up a 2 mile double tracked 1 in 37 incline with a yard at the bottom with various rakes of stock in to have a play about with, got a rake of 11 coaches, went to couple the 5 to the rear of the 7F and the 7F then became detatched from her tender and drove off on her own! A 2nd attempt after re-starting worked ok, but quite what is going on with wagons, coaches etc. jumping so violently when you couple up is beyond me.

Andy H sent me a video of the 7F leading the Black 5 on an S&D passenger train, so yes that does work (the Black 5 was even coasting, allowing the 7F to do all the work!).

Dan

Well I have tried turning the 7f round to face the opposite way so it goes tender first and it works, I can run round at either end of the line with no problems.
One thing I noticed with regards to 'airborne stock' was that the buffers go past each other and sometimes if you couple up with them in that position they head for the open fast moving sky! If you ease back so the buffers are kissing each other then it works, difficult to do when your framerates vary between 14 &30+!! :D

Perhaps the buffers should actually work, then you wouldn't have to be "mm" perfect! :( (surely that's just a collision detection tweak that can be done)

This is a joke, right?! I repeatedly asked Kuju to test this feature

Are you all sure you're actual using the "new" RS made by Kuju / RSD or whatever name the're using these days rather than the original RS made by MS? Can anyone say déjà vu?

At least Trainz knows what a coupler is and how to use it.
