How to connect?

Post by upcmail »

Hello everybody! (sorry for my bad english, but I'm from Holland ;))

I've got a few problems which I can't find in the manual or somewhere else on the internet.

I was just trying to connect 2 pieces of track, but it doesn't fit at all.
I've also used the "join" icon, but then it will get worse on the other end of the piece I've selected.

Two screens: (click on them to enlarge)

And other problems are junctions, I can make a junction from single track to double track, but when I want to go back from double to single track I can't get the tracks connected to a junction.

I hope somebody could tell me what to do! :D

Thanks in advance! 8)

Welcome to the forums. Your English is better than my non-existent Dutch so don't worry. I can't answer your question but I am sure someone will pitch in.
Kindest regards

Hi. This is the same as the thread which I started here, the question in which, I have now found the answer to (so I guess that thread can be deleted).

You need to enable the "snap to track" option in the common options for linear objects. You then create a new track from the end or middle of one of the tracks you want to join to somewhere in the middle of the other track. If the link can be made, you'll see some pink lines appearing.

I'd post a screenshot but I;m about to leave this computer. The manual located in "Rail Simulator\Manuals\EN" should tell you what you need. Look on page 13 or 14

the problem is that the snap to track does not keep on working, for me it doesn't work anymore for some very odd reason.

I too can't get this to work, if I did, I would have no problem at all, but it's something that's really stopping me from progressing futher. Thanks for the tip Tommy, but I still don't seem to get it, I'd like to see a video at how this is done if possible!
Edit: Saw your post Tommy, reading now
I took a couple of screens(change to links if any probs) of what I was trying to generally achieve, if I have this completely wrong please tell me.

I simply want to make a connection from the single track on the left to one of the tracks on the right, I have the weld tool selected, and a yellow outline automatically appears to fit between the gap.
Image

I click to add the track and I end up with this, and as you can see they aren't connected, as there is a gap, signified by the buffers, and they are off centre.
So what am I doing wrong here?

Deleted the track, and tried again, and this time no yellow outline appears, is this because I'm too close?

Hi. The yellow lione just signifies that track you're about to lay will be absolutely straight.
A white line means it will be curved
Only a pink line means that you will be connecting tracks.

I have managed to make a run round loop how? I dunno!! :( But does anyone know how to keep the tracks parallel in a loop?
I started with a straight section, put a left hand turnout in but had difficulty running a straight section parallel with the other track and even more problems with joining the track back up using a right hand turnout!

Hi, maybe this should work for you: having both ends of track in front of each other, click on the Join tool (not weld) , hold Ctrl key down and click once on each piece of track. They should join, however it could happen that one of them moves and disconnects from the track section behind. I still have to found out how to solve this.

Try making the two tracks first, either by laying both at the same time or using the offset tool. Then use the crossover tool to join the two tracks together to form the loop.
