"Lost in the Shuffle" scenario

General discussion about Rail Simulator that doesn't really fit in to any specific category. A good place to start if you're not sure what category it should fit in to as well.

"Lost in the Shuffle" scenario

Post by bigslipper »

I've tried this three times now and each time I successfully complete the shunting objectives at Didcot, then arrive at the yard exit signal and never get the road. The damn thing just stays at danger.

Unless the sceanrio is faulty then I'm obviously doing something wrong but I can't figure out what. I presume somone out there has managed it so what is the secret because its driving me nuts !!!!

Stuck there myself as well. Waiting for a train that might never come. Perhaps I took too long shunting and there are no more AI trains to clear that green signal from the platform?

The shunting was most enjoyable though, using the roaming cam to wander round the yard, setting the points for the route by clicking on the levers, then back to the cab to drive. Took a while to realise I had to press keys to couple up, not just hit the wagons like in MSTS. Got a kick when I parked with the buffers overlapping the wagon buffers, but no problem when I stopped with the buffers just touching.

I tried this scenario again at the Aldershot show yesterday, and got stuck at the same place. Luckily Matt came up with the solution. Go to the 2D map and change the point on to the main line. The signal goes green, and (rather unprototypically), the platform road signal goes from green back to red. Unfortunately, I had to leave then, so I have still not reached Reading yet.

I played it yesterday evening, I was a bit annoyed that I could not operate the switches by clicking on the levers. When I had completed the work at Didcot, the Rail Simulator simply exited to the desktop, without a error or such. This was the second time that happened.

It did occur to me last night that I probably had to set the route up myself but I haven't had chance to try it. Thanks for confirming it :D

If you set the points to join the Main line as soon as you can it will give you the green a bug none the less but you can get round it !

If you set 'Automatic Coupling' on in the Home--> Options --> Gameplay screen then you can couple by hitting wagons at low speed

Thanks, but now that I have it sussed, I think I prefer to couple up manually instead of automatically - seems more realistic, if not quite such heavy work. Buckeye couplings are really heavy to lift up.

I don't know if there is something missing as far as software on my PC but if I run up to a consist and manualy couple it uncouples the rest of the consist and send it down the track?! :infinity:

Is there practically no signalman in this sim then except for the basics? It's all up to the player?

Just finished that scenario and its great!

The red light bug happened to me too although as above if you set the point on the mainline it turns green.

After you leave Didcot Yard the points are automatic until you reach Slough.

I enjoyed this scenario alot.

Wolly, I had that problem, but I found if you pull up so the buffers are just touching it works fine.

hi, seems to me that mainline running is dispatcher controlled, yards are manual, which i would have thought more realistic, although it seems the junction in this scenario hasn't been set up this way

I've just finished this mission - second attempt ;)

First attempt was an immediate disaster, because I couldn't work out how to set the road past the first dummy groundsignal! Rolled past the first points (which I'd set with G) and then died promptly on the next set! Doh.

Since then I have worked out the magic trick. Go to the 2D map (key 9), and use SHIFT-Left-Click on the blue circles (user-adjustable points) to set the road so that the thin blue line is where you want it. Then, suddenly, life gets a LOT more easier and commonsense!

Be warned, though. Two big weirdies with this mission:

1 - like all the OX-PAD missions, this one appears to run at HALF-SPEED. That is, one minute of game-time is approx TWO minutes of real life. No idea why this is, but it's consistent (for me) across ALL these GWR mainline missions. I'd be interested to know why!

2 - when approaching Maidenhead, you'll meet a 40mph speed-board WITHOUT WARNING. Slow down well in advance - and if you DO happen to hit it at greater than 40, brake HARD! There's a TPWS at the east end of the platform, mere yards away, which will trip your brakes if you are going even as little as 1mph more than 40 at the time you pass the platform signal. You will then be forced to make a full stop, and get going again. PITA. ;)
