Help required to load Ashburton Downloads into MSTS
I have downloaded the following route files from the UKTSim Data base 14187, 14188, 14189, 14190 and the Patch 15562 into my computer all relating to the Devon Ashburton line with the intention of adding to my collection of routes some were the original MSTS ones and the rest the excellent free routes CD's given to me at the various UKtrainsim shows I have attended this year.
This was my first attempt at downloading route files from the Uktrainsim data base and picked one of the small branch line routes I like and today I clicked on to the first file and got the Ash-Set up application icon.
After clicking on this it asked me to redesignate the the folder where the Ash-set-1.zip file was stored or insert the
disc, as I had downloaded them I told the computer to look in the folder on my C drive and pressed return.
It replied that it could not find the zip file to start the installation and so I had to abort the job, I have looked on the forum for help to get round this problem and could not find anything that helped me so if anybody can assist in advising me what I should do, it would be appreciated.
Thanks Bob

Hi Bob
I think reading this thread will help you to install Ashburton http://forums.uktrainsim.com/viewtopic. ... ON#p754237 .
Alternatively, it is available on CD with a couple of other GWR branch lines.

My railway photos are now on Google + - links to the albums are in this thread http://forums.uktrainsim.com/viewtopic. ... 9&t=149558
Lots of steam and early diesels from 1959 to 1963.

Re: Help required to load Ashburton Downloads into MSTS
Alan, thanks for your reply but I tried the TSUnpack fix and that didn't work either, this may be probably because while the various downloads are listed as being .zip files, all the ones I have downloaded are saved as .bin files except the first which is an application file.
I am not familar with this type of file, so how do I unzip them as prairie4566 said to do on the 29 Oct 2006 so I can get at the data stored in them.
I also notice that all my files are slightly smaller in size than the ones printed in 2006, is there something missing like a readme file or are they contained in the .bin files.
I have spent a while looking on the various forum sites but found nothing that would help solve what is probably a simple thing to do.
Thanks again Bob

Hi Bob,
When you say application file do you mean .exe?
After unzipping the 4 zips
You should have, all in the same folder.
ash-setup.exe
ash-setup-1.bin
ash-setup-2.bin
ash-setup-3.bin
Click on ash-setup.exe and there you are.
It works for me on XP
While I am rambling on. Have a look at ASHBURTON 2.

Hi Bob,
Have you had a read of these?
http://forums.uktrainsim.com/viewtopic. ... &sk=t&sd=a
I presume you have 'Winzip' or similar installed, to allow you to unzip the Ashburton downloads?
The TSUnpack utility you only need to use to load .apk files (downloaded Activities) and is not required for your Ashburton download.
Robert.

Re: Help required to load Ashburton Downloads into MSTS
Thanks to all your posts, when I mentioned .exe files I meant I have come across them and understand that all you have to do is click on them and they will run automatically.
This morning I went over to have a word with the lads at the shop where I bought my own home computer from, when I retired at the end of last year.
One chap called Andy, who has helped answer my basic questions in the past, told me what do to open a .bin type of file.
1) Put the various parts of the Ashburton Route Downloads into a Seperate folder, I will call it "Ashburton"
2) Highlight all the files I want to expand
3) Right Click on them
4) Click on "Send To"
5) Click on "Compressed Folder"
and this should do the trick.
I should see all the files I have downloaded for the Ashburton Route thus enabling me to load it into MSTS and allow Train Store to load it when I need it.
While I know how to operate a computer to get by, I am just over 60 and never had the time due to work commitments to understand all the ins and outs about all the different types of files and how they work and in particular what to do when they are compressed.
I have come across .zip files before and understand those ones but I have not come across .bin ones and hence the reason for my question about what I should do.
Anyway once again thanks for your suggestions.

Re: Help required to load Ashburton Downloads into MSTS
Robert, well I tried what I have been told and guess what it didn't work, wait until I see Andy.
I saw from some earlier postings that you needed Winzip installed which on checking my computer I haven't, so I downloaded a trial copy of Winzip and after starting again from scratch I finally succeeded.
I have even installed the update programme file as well after skipping all the requests for a password, I think it loaded o.k.
Anyway I said I was a novice and needed guidance to get started on first time downloading but better a bit late than never.
Thanks Once again, it is a pity that the UkTrainsimlive shows are so busy as I like to be shown in a quiet room away from the Model Railway Exhibitions some of the things I need to know to load and run some of the Downloads.

Hi again Bob,
I'm a little confused now, understand about downloading Winzip, but are you OK now with Ashburton, have you got it installed and running?
Did you have a look at the link I posted earlier about downloading and installing?

Re: Help required to load Ashburton Downloads into MSTS
Robert, quite simply I posted my advice before trying it and as I said it didn't work, so I had a further look at the advice given on here and did manage to load Ashburton Route with Winzip now installed in my computer.
After doing a trial run from Totnes to Ashburton I had a go at loading the update and tonight I checked to see if the update for the route had indeed been loaded and when I found that it hadn't, I did it again and answered yes to all the requests to replace the files in the original with the ones it contained.
Unfortunately now where as before I could do both the explore route run and the introductory activity in the route, now it crashes when I load the introductory activity one and kicks me out, but loads the explore route o.k.
What is the reason for this, any answers to this problem will settle my confused mind.

Re: Help required to load Ashburton Downloads into MSTS
Robert, no I haven't but will when I get some free time to download on monday, as it gets a little busy at the weekends with more people wanting to download.
Just a comment, is there a reason why the sounds in the cab of the Class_14xx when viewing straight ahead at the controls are missing, in all other routes using steam engines you can hear the whistle, the opening of the regulator, throttle, firedoors opening and the coal being shovelled.
Is there an easy fix for this fault that I need to know about or can I adjust the files once I know what to alter using notepad.
By the way thanks for helping with my questions.

Bob,
Got a feeling that the above download also fixes some .eng files which may fix your sounds problem, come back after you have downloaded after the weekend and lets us know how you get on.

Re: Help required to load Ashburton Downloads into MSTS
Robert, I have had a look at the sheet for UKTrainsim File ID 17236 and read what it does but I see that it recommends that I have already downloaded and run the File ID 17226. I have seen and read the problems people have had with the version 2 loading Activities on the general forum when I was looking how to get round my original problem.
Do you think it best I download and run File ID 17226 before File ID 17236 so that this will get round any further problems I might get from loading and running further downloaded Activities later on.
