I know what you mean. My nearest is about eight miles away, which is a bit of a pain when you don't have your own transport. And even that dosn't stock much for garden railways - for that I have to go even further, to Garden Railway Specialists in Princes Risborough. And the fact that I don't have my own credit card makes it harder to buy stuff over the internet as well!leviathan1949 wrote:1. Not everybody has a local model shop. My nearest is 18 miles away.
So normally, I just try to stock up on everything I need for the garden railway at the Stoneleigh show.

Hmmm....
Well I said not sure, they're fine when it comes to actually talking about basic model railway things, but anything more advanced I'm not sure. Also, they don't tend to store a huge amount of railway stock, seeing as they focus more on R/C cars and planes, etc. It tends to be a problem when you can't get what supplies you need when they're not stocked. I can order from them, but of course I could just do this over the Internet.
Overall, I would say just above average - not fantastic in terms of items in stock, but relatively friendly - Bekra, Newton Abbot

well i have 2 model shops within 10 miles, and both are very good, and if you look like you are having trouble, they will come over and help. they are both different in terms of stock, one has all stock to hand ready to buy and the other most locos have to be ordered in. i find them both very helpful.

all the model shops in my area arn't that good.
There's two in Skeg (one railway and one other) other then them there's one in Boston that does Hornby other then that there's Swineshead Bridge that has the best veriety of items although loco/stock whise it's too expencive and it's best to buy online from Rails or Hattons.
