Taking on Water

Post by michaelstopford »

I have searched the forums for an answer to the following, but so far come up with nothing that helps. If this should have been posted in the Beginners Forum, I apologise.
On Cambrian 2 (an excellent route) I am taking a train from Pwllhelli to Shrewsbury. Obviously I am a very poor driver, using water like its going out of fashion, perhaps not too bad this year!! I want to take more water on at Machynlleth, so I draw up to the water crane, and press T. The delivery arm moves over to the tank fill and I can hear water flowing but the amount of water showing in both the HED's display and the gauge in the engine show no increase in water capacity.
Having read a previous post on this issue, I went into AE and changed the appropriate fuel point from 0% to 100%.
Can anyone tell me either what I am doing wrong or not doing right.
Look forward to hearing.

Hallo!
You could also check the eng or wag file of the engine or tender you're using if there are intake points for water and coal. The entry should look similar to this one:
IntakePoint ( -2.84 0.4 FuelWater )
IntakePoint ( 0.89 2.73 FuelCoal )
Another reason could be that some tenders are defined as "freight" and not as "tender". If so you can change the type entry right at the beginning of the wag file.
If all this is ok you could have missed the exact intake point. A little trying or widening the intake point (0.4 in the example above) will help.

Keep on steamin'!

Hello Michael,

Glad you got it sorted.

Perhaps it would be a good idea to tell us what the answer was (judging by the Cambrian 2 interest at the moment), so if others come across the same problem, it can be easily fixed.

All the best.

Robert.

Robert,
The problem was me, not being accurate enough.
Sorry,

I think it's ok to widen the water intake, afterall, most spouts were flexible.
