The Rail Simulator forum was very busy leading up to the UK release on October 12th 2007, this is a read-only copy of those discussions for historic and review purposes.

Europeanbahn have been advertising up and coming projects in there routes since day one.

Dynamic ingame advertisment - its like saying oh look a moving bilboard.

Nothing new about ingame advertisment, MS and EA just use the word dynamic to make it look sexy. And if your blasting away at 100+ mph on a route and you spend more time looking at adverts then the whole simulation thing just really goes out the window really, and eventually it will be just a game.

"Dynamic" is more than a decoration to make it look sexy. It means that new ads are downloaded at your costs, and, what's more important, information about you is uploaded. This starts with your viewing behaviour of these ads, but can be much more, for example, the cookies stored in your browser. In theory this is only limited to what you agreed on (in the small print) and what's legal (hopefully).

Is is similar information to that which is gathered when you use a search engine?
