From the readme in
Unzip Dorset4-01.zip that you have downloaded. Select the path c:\ (or other drive letter as appropriate) and check the
option in Winzip "Use Folder Names". Extract all files and when prompted choose Yes to All to overwrite existing files.
3. Repeat step 2 for the files Dorset4-02.zip to Dorset4-04.zip.
4. Run the Install4-0.bat file.

I have extracted the zip files into a temporary folder.
What I want to do now is install it into my Dorset 3 folder but I have to overwrite stuff etc etc. and dont want to overwrite anything wrong.
This use folder names option in winzip which is what Dave tells you what to do, well! I have never been able to find it in all the time I have been using train sim
Can someone explain it word for word what to do to upgrade to version 4 please as I have never been able to understand winzip fully.
Thanks...

When you have the classic winzip window open you should see the files in the main window. Along the top will be a button marked extract. Click that and you will get another window asking where the files should be extracted too. (For Dorset Coast you should make sure that just says c:\ or the root of the drive where your msts installation is if it isnt on the c drive). In the options near the bottom you should make sure that all files in the zip is selected, the overwrite box is ticked, and the use folder names box is ticked. When you click extract again it will unpack everything, placing files in the path shown in the classic window.
If you want to be doubly safe, make a copy of your Dorset routes file first somewhere outside of your msts folder. then if anything should go wrong you can just delete the upgrade and copy it back again.

Hello depman2004
When you say you have extracted to a temp folder, do you mean you unzipped them if so that was not what Dave said, you need to unzip to C:
(If that is the drive you have installed MSTS on).
The option in Winzip "Use Folder Names" is found when clicking on extract,
a box opens asking where you want to extract the files (C: in this case) and at the bottom of the box in the middle is a small box (that requires ticking) that allows the option of "Use Folder Names".
Then unzip the files and when prompted choose Yes to All to overwrite existing files (in this particular case).
Hope that sorts you.
Robert.
Edit: Beat me to it Lad491 and have explained it better.

Thanks to both of you.
I have done exactly what you said to do.
Unfortunatly I still have V3
However in the V3 folder the 4.4 folder is showing in there in a seperate folder program files/microsoft games/train simulator/Routes/Dorset. also the Sound folder and Trains floder.
Something went wrong?

Hello depman2004,
It seems to me that you haven't unzipped the files to C: as described, but to the Dorset Route folder, if you have backed up your Dorset Route folder as Lad491 suggested, re-install the original copy and unzip again, this time to C: as explained in the Read Me.
This is assuming C: drive is where you have MSTS installed.
Robert.

I'll never lose interest in mstsemrhd01 wrote:Hello depman2004,
I take it, all is sorted now and you're running Version 4.
These things happen to us all, but as long as you get it right in the end and you don't lose interest in MSTS that's the main thing.

Re: upgrading dorset coast v3 to v4
I just wondered if anyone had experienced any errors between Twickenham and St margarets?
I have been making an activity and unfortunatly between these stations I have errors throw up at me like "OE Lampost" and a few others and then msts wont fire anymore.
Any views on this?

I presume you have all 6 default routes installed when you run the installme.bat? As I think OELampost is a shape from the Austria route. Try running DC through route_riter and find if it is missing any files.
