How big is yours then?

Post by thegoonden »

Sorry for the Leslie Philips school of thread title.

I'm a terrific horder of game addons, be they freeware or payware (most of my racing games have damned near every world circuit and half a dozen race series available), but nothing has chomped my hard drive up like MSTS.

I have now hit 34GB!!!!!

But it occurs to me that I am probably a lightweight compared to some of you folks.

So, who wants to scare me?

I've just checked my disk again - 48Gb for my MST installation and 27Gb of downloads, not counting all the utilities. After a bit of research I've just ordered a 500Gb Samsung Spinpoint which should last me a while - and it's less than £70 delivered from Scan Computers.

Please have a look at my railway photograph site - http://alan-lewis-chambers.fotopic.net/ - lots of British steam and early diesels

2.45GB in downloads.
19.7GB in MSTS.

Of course, in 6 months down the line that will increase greatly due to the wonderful downloads from UKTS :D

If that was a Maxtor HD, you may have been able to save it. Apparently it's *always* the drive control card that fails on them, we've had two do it in our Linux fileserver, "Guzunda" (cos she guzunda the table), the fact that she only gets rebooted when the power fails may have summat to do with that. Anyway, all we had to do was connect the controller card from a working example of the same drive and rescue the data before binning the dead unit.

Just a thought.

Also on the same subject, my friend has had some Maxtor Drives go on him and by using a program he managed to save all of the stuff. Also Her indoors managed to re install windows via a format on the home PC and he recovered the drives entire contents. It was a bit messy to sort through but there wasnt anything missed.
I can find out what program it is if it would be of use to you?

I agree!

It would take me half an hour (trust me I tried once!) to load everything up!

But with train store I can just choose the Route and activity, and then it just take 30 seconds!

So this is for the guy who made trainstore! :drinking:

Cheers,

21.9GB mine stands at.

I doubt whether mine will get bigger, I usually clear out anything pre diesel era and don't install everything post BR until I want to run it, plus I usually replace older stock with the new updates.

I have a DVD almost full of downloads with a second DVD 1/3 full of beta stuff.
