That is because they are also intended to work on the non-High Speed lines in Kent. The sorter carriage length permits them to traverse sharper curves.richard222 wrote:Carriages look rather short to me, Unfortunately, I think it looks like a common surban EMU with a Pendo's front nose added on, but surprisingly I quite like that look
As for the second comment - that is because they are! The Hitachi A-train concept is an EMU that can be customised for 4 different forms of travel, with high speed being top of the range. If it hadn't been for the longer lead times to production (for detailed design work) the A-train would have been chosen over the Electrostar for the South Eastern replacement stock. This would have meant most of the SET fleet in 2015 being fitted with Hitachi traction packages.
The doors are Hitachi's own design, as used on the Shinkansen sets (and are very reliable, much more so than the sliding plug doors on the 465's and 375's!).

Would Connex have ordered Hitachi trains then? In which case, the SC (Southern) trains would also be Hitachi?BR7MT wrote:As for the second comment - that is because they are! It's a bit laughable to call these things "bullet trains" as I have seen mentioned - they are high geared suburban EMUs with pointy fronts...

Good question - answer: don't know!arabiandisco wrote:Would Connex have ordered Hitachi trains then? In which case, the SC (Southern) trains would also be Hitachi?
The South Central / Southern Railway fleet are owned by a different ROSCO though, which may have had a big influence on the outcome.
