Warning. Winzip 11.
A new version of Winzip is available.
If you have paid for Winzip 10, DO NOT install this new version. It will overwrite Winzip 10.
Your registration code WILL NOT WORK with this new version.
I payed for this program 18months ago and consider myself ripped off.
Fortunately I still have the Winzip 10 download.

Using that logic Windows 3.11 users were being ripped off twice, First to buy Dos 6 and then for Win 3.11.thegoonden wrote:They've a ruddy cheek to charge for a shiny gui to a free program (PKZip), in the first place.
Use PKZip and PKUnzip then. You might also discover that PKWare charge for their products. Just because they were increadibly common on Pirate floppys back in the day doesn't mean they were free.

Or you could use 7zip, which the open source alternative (free, no pop-ups and works for all the compressed file types I have come across so far)

I'll second that - 7Zip is very easy to use, especially if you run it in 2 pane mode, as you can see exactly where you are decompressing the files to.

It does clearly state that registration codes for V10 will not work with V11 and that you will need to purchase an upgrade license.
I'm not sure how you can feel ripped off - you bought a version of a product 18 months ago and now they've released a newer version for which you have to pay to upgrade to. I take it you're still using Windows 1 as it feels like a rip-off upgrading to anything newer?
I've tried other compression utils and have found the Winzip interface to be the most user-friendly that I've come across.
If you are a registered user, it is possible to recover V10 from the Winzip website if you've lost your original copy.

This shouldn't stop anyone buying Winzip (or anything else) - simply use any of the many online currency exchange calculators beforehand if you need to know the price in sterling:

I use either winrar, or just the GPL zip and unzip programs.
