Thames Mersey 4.2 DVD

Post by davidmcritchie1 »

Hi all

I am having problems with the Thames Mersey DVD. I have installed it and it is taking 18 MINUTES to load MSTS with just the one route installed! Even then I can't run it as it crashes out of MSTS as soon as I try to run an activity. It comes up with various error messages and stops. Any ideas as to why it is not running? (My computer exceeds the specifications mentioned it the README file.) I have MSTSbin installed as well.

Any help gratefully received.

Many Thanks.

If you hav'nt already download trainstore. I think that might help it load quicker.

Hi David, and welcome to the forums.

It sounds like you need to install Trainstore and run MSTS through that. It's a complex program but using the EASY setting, it doesn't take long to get to grips with. As it stores all the activities, paths, routes, consists and locos that your NOT using, the files needed to run the activity you ARE running can be loaded in next to no time.

A wonderful and invaluable piece of software, and you don't need to download it - it's on your TM DVD. :D

Nope - still doesn't work!

Post by davidmcritchie1 »

Nope - I'm sorry but it is still taking 18 minutes! I have Trainstore already and have used it to store all my routes except Thames Mersey so it is the only one available to MSTS. I had a thought it might be my AVG anti-virus program affecting MSTS again (like it has done in the past) but switching it off has made no difference. Does anyone know of any other software that affects MSTS? Or indeed anything else that might affect it?

Thanks

Have you got a lot of things stored on your computer hard drive as this can slow down your computers performance.

Thanks

This is not enough - you need to run just one activity at a time in TM. There are nearly 700 consists alone on the TM DVD, which is near to the maximum consist limit, together with 1100 paths and 2000 services, all of which MSTS must read when it loads.

Take Dave's advice - use Easy Trainstore to run one activity, and it will load in seconds.

Alan

Please have a look at my railway photograph site - http://alan-lewis-chambers.fotopic.net/ - lots of British steam and early diesels

Just to clarify Daves comment above - you need to store all the activities for Thames Mersey too and then pick a single activity at a time to run using easy trainstore. Having the whole route unstored will still be too much for MSTS to handle.

YES! It's working now!

Hi

Thanks everyone. It now loads in under ten seconds! I will use Trainstore to store all activities bar the one I want. Will bear it in mind for any other large routes such as Dorset Coast 3.

Many Thanks

You are best off using Trainstore for all your routes - not just the large ones.

Absolutely, use it all the time. It stops MSTS insanely searching all it's folders and valildating every single piece of stock, and lord knows what else.
