Which loco would you like to see restored from the National collection?
I personnelly would like to see a smaller loco, preferbly a tank engine as I think most if not all currently runing are tender locos. My choice for restoration would be the GNR J52 currently at Shildon as it's in good condition and was last used about 10 years ago.
What about you?

I'd like the J52 as well as it would earn its keep. Most of all I'd like the GNR Stirling Single No.1 never seen her in steam, but from footage at the Great Central she looks great and also turned in the crowds.

Ooh, now there's a tricky question!
Actually, my three favourite NRM engines - 4472, 30587 and 3440 - are all already in steam or under overhaul. I certainly wouldn't mind seeing the J52 or Stirling Single in steam again, or one of the GNR atlantics for that matter. But - very surprisingly, in view of the fact that I'm not normally a fan of the LMS - the engines currently on static display that I'd most like to see in steam again are Hardwicke and Midland Compound No. 1000....

I second that statement. We could really do with a mainline certified 9f again. Sister engine 92212 was supposed to be going on the mainline several years ago, but nothing happened.allypally wrote:Evening Star. She's the newest yet she's on a plinth. A very special engine too that should be working.

4468, 4468, and, erm, 4468!
With the NRM's current attitude* we'll be lucky to see it back for the centenery of 126mph in 2038.
(*"If it breaks it'll just be left as 100 odd tons of metal sat going nowhere" : how's that different to how it is now?)

31737 would also be nice, as it's not a particularly valuable/ unique exhibit, and SE&CR locos are very attractive.
30120 is too broken to restore (I think it would need new cylinder blocks for one thing).
4468 is a bit pointless as it's far too valuable to risk, and there are plenty of other A4s.

Exactly the same with Evening Star and the 9F's.arabiandisco wrote:4468 is a bit pointless as it's far too valuable to risk, and there are plenty of other A4s.
I would like to see the Compound back or Hardwick, or even Lode Star would be quite good.
