Help!!! MSTS has gone!

Post by shaun123 »

Hi, I re-installed MSTS today and also installed the bin patch now I went to run an activity and MSTSBin wasn't present no decimals on track monitor so obviously train.exe had reverted to V1.4 again.

I was correct looking at the properties of train.exe it was V1.4 again so I uninstalled Bin as I thought reinstalling it, it may work again but on uninstalling Bin 1.7022 it also looks to have uninstalled train.exe as that disappeared as well as Bin :(

What should I do help!

Any suggestions

Thanks
Shaun :)

I'd simply copy the 'train.exe' file from the 'exe' folder on the MSTS CD into the 'Train Simulator' root folder - this is the same as re-installing the program ...

Just tried to load an activity through train store to see if there was a chance that MSTS would work obviously not because of no train.exe got this error:

<IMG width="1024" height="819" SRC="http://www.atomic-album.com/showPic.php ... nstore.jpg">

I am really upset about losing MSTS and looks like it will have to be reinstalled :( :( :( (tomorrow though really tired now)

Can Anyone shed some light to were train.exe has disappeared to and any solutions to the problem? :-?

Thanks For Any Help!
Shaun :)

Hi
If you look in the Train Simulator folder there should be a folder called MSTSBIN_BACKUP.
Inside there is a file called 'Train.0001' copy and paste that to the Train simulator folder, and rename it to 'Train.Exe'.
Failing that download the MS update, run it and you'll end up with a version of 'Train.exe' suitable for Bin Patch.
Cheers
Jon

<IMG width="1024" height="819" SRC="http://www.atomic-album.com/showPic.php ... derror.jpg">

Looks like complete re-install only option :(

Anyway thanks for help I shall sleep on the problem wake up at 6 tomorrow and start re-installing.
Also Jon to add would I need to Uninstall MSTS first or just enter the CD and click reinstall would save a lot of hassle :-?

Thanks

Hi Shaun
Yes you should be able to repair rather than uninstall using the CD.
Try running the Bin Patch, that will put the missing file back.
You can also get a complete set of pre-bin files from Otto

Just re-installed and putting my add-ons back on next time I will make a back up of train.exe before installing Bin, although when un-installing bin I didnt back up files as I never thought that a simple uninstall would go wrong!

Hi, well I've successfully installed my add-ons, just GE and ECE to go, but again I want to install the bin patch again as my MSTS needs it some big routes loaded and also got loads of bin acts as well, but I'm unsure whether to install it, if I make a copy of train.exe and everything goes wrong and then put it back again will everything be O.K?

Thanks
Shaun :)

Yes installed Bin made a back up of train.exe in case :wink:.

Maybe just making an assumption but this only happened with the Xplosiv version of MSTS where as i loaded my original May 2001 version and worked!

Thanks
Shaun :)
