More New Milton route install probs!

Post by 24FEB »

Hi there,

Many thnaks for your replies. I did lookm at some of the forum links, and tried one of the suggestion, but my prob seems to be different.

Ok, what I did is I created a temp folder, and then I copied the five watersnake files that are numbered into my temp folder.

Now,

I then copied the un-numbered watersnake folder into the same temp folder, and then renamed it from ukts, to just watersnake.zip.

Then,

I tried to (using winzip), unzip that folder to another temp file, and it will not open. I get the following - "The compressed (zipped) Folder is invalid or corrupt! Help!

Hi
No your problem is the same....You haven't got the correct version of Winzip... it must be newer than v8.1.
Search the word 'Spanned zip'

From Andrew Moody West Moors Dorset.

Hello
I too have major problems, basically my computer flatly refuses to open UKTS 16212 despite sucsessfully downloading it.
I am useing Powerzip and get the following message.

"The zip file you are trying to unzip appears to be a split file probally created by winzip. Split zip files are a propiertary extention to the official
zip standard and are not supported by powerzip
Please ask the vendor of the zip file to send it in standard format as a multi pack cab file"
What ever all that is supposed to mean :o
Obviously I am more than a little bit interested in this route living approx quarter of a mile from the site of West Moors station not to mention the fact that I for my sins work as a guard over the main line and on the Lymington branch so could handle the steam era.
I have Swanage branch and Woking Basingstoke so would have most of the stock.
Any help greatly appreciated.
Cheers Andy

Hello Jon.
I have just had a total disaster with winzip (version 8.1) All I got was acres of error messages It took mr round and round in circles would not open 16212 and it appears that I have to spend $29.95 to purchase it.
This all looks very familiar as I have just had excatly the same problems as I had with winzip in 2002 which is why I chose Powerzip.
Is there perhaps another version of winzip I could "Trial" that would do the buisness ?.
Another question, In the event of me being sucsessful There does not appear to be any instalation instructions what do I do with watersnake 1 to 5?
I rather fear that I am going to be bitterly disapointed and can therefore only hope and Pray that perhaps Watersnake will find its way into the CD Download liberary I would gladly pay £5 or £10 pounds for it.
Best wishes

Yes. Winzip.

It has an evaluation period, where you can use it without having to pay.

It may be unethical but with the "evaluation" version of Winzip, failure to buy does not stop the program from working. You just get an ever increasing delay each time you open it whilst it calculates how many times you have used it previously.
WINRAR evaluation will ask you to purchase but still runs if you don't

It is not only unethical - it is illegal to use software in breach of the licence terms of that software. However, there are free alternatives available see http://forums.uktrainsim.com/viewtopic.php?t=66323 for more details of 3 different products that are free.

Kindest regards

Thanks for the advice but was unable to even launch Winwar and even worse It made my powerzip 6.5 unworkable and resulted me having to do a system restore.
For me Winzip is a great way of playing "Chase my tail" Only stopping off occasionly to remind me to purchase somthing that I obviously would not be able to use.
I appreciate that my powerzip is old and probally out of date.
I have looked at the trident software website and there appears to be a lot of stuff that does split files, Now what worries me is the fact that or so it appears That "Whitesnake would not work unless I have Winzip and winzip only installed" Is this correct? or would any other product do the trick as well?
You will by now have established that I am NOT a computer expert
and I DO appreciate any help and comment.
Because of my location I am desperate to get this route up and running.
Many thanks.

Andrew, I`m sorry you are still having problems unzipping New Forest Route. If you really can`t get it running, I will copy to CD for you. Send me a blank disk with SAE (P.M. me for my address)
I must point out that the present version has track only to W.Moors, scenery won`t follow till later.
Returning to Winzip, New Forest can be unzipped by other programs- see the links given above.
Incidentaly, I would be pleased to hear if you have any info on the W.Moors WD sidings
Best wishes Rick

As I pointed out in aprevious discussion on this:

I tried to sort it out with winRAR and the zip extractor in XP and neither of them worked. I needed to use winZIP 10 which you can get free without registering or paying etc. at,

http://www.oldversion.com/program.php?n=winzip

it did the trick for me and its working fine. Just follow the instructions posted earlier about how to extract and it should work with WinZIP 10.
