New Forest Route - Cannot Unzip File 16212

Post by Iluka »

Hi All

I have just Downloaded all six files required for this Route.

I made a new Folder called New Forest and unzipped 16207/16208/16209/16210 & 16211 OK in there which created Z01/Z02/Z03/Z04 & Z05 but when I tried to Unzip File 16212 in there I got the message "Specify Location for Part 1 of the Archive"

I tried it with Winzip10.0 & Winzip 11.0 and got the same result.

I then put the Zip File into the New Forest Folder I had created and got the same result when I tried to unzip it!!

I have installed lots of Routes but never had this problem before.

File 16212 downloads as 2,305KB whereas the File shows as 2,360KB in the Download details so I wonder either am I making a basic mistake or is there something missing from this file?

Regards

Mike

Moved to MSTS General forum, as it's more a general issue than route building...

Hi Mike & John,

I think this must be a problem with the download, as I have got the same problem. I created a new folder first called it New forrest all ok until the final zip fip It just didn't want to know.

I then deleted every thing and tried again useing the zip file first, same error massege. I then tried calling by the other name Watersnake and still it's not working.

I think Matt or some one needs to check this out again as it's suspicious that at least three people can't get it to work, and all who are used to down loading routes with know problems.

It works if you do it this way.

Copy the one without the number before the .zip into a temporary folder and remove the UKTS prefix bit. Unzip the other ones into the same temporary folder, producing z01, z02 etc. Then unzip the only one in the temporary folder with a .zip extension.

I followed the instructions on the file 6 download page, and everything then works OK. These are the instructions:

1)Unzip watersnake01/02/03/04/05 to your temp location
2) You now have archive files z01,z02,z03,z04,z05
And watersnake.zip all together.
3) Create a new empty folder called Watersnake
4)Unzip Watersnake.zip into the new Watersnake folder. This will automatically unzip the archive files too.
5)Check the Watersnake folder actually has the usual contents - shapes, textures, world etc.
Copy the entire Watersnake folder into your trainsimulator/Routes folder.
6)Please read the readmeforUsers file in the Watersnake folder.
7)Problems. The most likely cause of trouble is unzipping to the wrong location. or creating a double "watersnake within Watersnake". Check and try again.

Hi Bob & Alan

I did what Bob suggested and eveything installs perfectly.

The problem I had Alan is that I couldn't unzip File 16212 to read the Readme

Thanks for your help Bob as this is the first time I have been "stumped" installing a Route.

The bad news is that I upgraded to Winzip11.0 from Winzip10.0 which I had paid for in June 06 including free upgrades for 12months and now they have the cheek to offer me Winzip 11.0 for a 50% discount after the 45day trial period!!! - I am really cheesed off with them

Don't know how you've managed it alanch, I've downloaded all sorts of Routes before but this one is giving me problems.

All goes OK until an attempt to unzip File 6 is made and the error message {The compressed (zipped) folder is invalid or corrupt} appears I have followed the instructions on the download to the letter, but cannot get a result like you.

Right I've followed the instructions to the letter and still can't get an install of this route. Still can't extract the readme as it still asks for the location of z01. one attempt actually went past z01 and then asked for the location of z02 gave the location and still got nothing except the error report????

Gonna leave it for a couple of hours then try again with a fresh head

Cheers

I`m sorry there are problems downloading New Forest Route.
I have just done a trial download successfully, so I am sure the uploaded files are correct.
However, it is easy to get the files in a muddle : I know I`ve done it myself!
Here are some suggestions
1) UKTS_16212_watersnake.zip is the master zip file which unpacks the other archive zips. Unzip it LAST. Note it isn`t a readme
2) message "Specify Location for Part 1 of the Archive" . This error means
a)winzip can`t find the archive files z01,z02,z03,z04,z05
Make sure these files are in the same folder as UKTS_16212_watersnake.zip ie your temporary watersnake folder
b) you are unzipping watersnake.zip before you have unzipped files UKTS_16207-11, watersnake01-05.
3) It maybe helpful to rename your downloaded files to watersnake01/02/03/04/05 ie getting rid of UKTS prefix.
The UKTS prefix is automatically tagged on the file by the system, and it does make for difficulties in handling spanned zips.
If users find difficulties, I will have to look at using an auto installer.
However the fact that I and others have downloaded succesfully does show the upload is workable. Hope this helps Rick.

The instructions on the download page are, I think, a bit unclear. This is what I did.

Download all 6 files and place in a temp folder called whatever you like.
Highlight files 16207/08/09/10/11 ( NOT file 16212) and in Winzip - "Extract to here".
This should add Watersnake.z01 - .z05 to the folder.

Remove the UKTS prefix from file 16212 leaving it as Watersnake.zip.

Highlight Watersnake.zip and "Extract to here".

This should produce a folder called Watersnake containing all the route files. (should be 250Mb)

Cut and paste this folder into your Routes folder.

Just to say I followed Alan and Latimers instructions ans have managed to down load it ok.

I'm about to try one of the activities that came with it.

The only thing I'm not sure of is the instruction about the default dirt roads going into the route global folder, I can't seem to locate that folder.

Hi All

If you do exactly as Bob advised you will have no problems at all.

Make a folder New Forest in My Documents

Unzip files 16207/16208/16209/16210 & 16211 into the new folder (New Forest) you have just created in My Documents

Rename the UKTS_16212_Watersnake.zip to Watersnake.zip and put this renamed zip file into your new folder New Forest in My Documents with the rest of the files you have just unzipped in there which will now show Z01/Z02/Z03/Z04/Z05 & Watersnake.zip.

Click on the Watersnake.zip file and it will unzip the lot to your nominated Location.

I`m glad people are managing to get the route download sorted out.
I will try to make the download instructions clearer.
Mike the dirtroads are in trainsimulator/global/shapes folder. They are default shapes so you don`t need to add them. I mentioned it just incase some people had moved or deleted them.
The trial activities on the Lymington Branch and Ringwood may crash on completion so save just before the final station &reload. Still looking for a solution to this :any advice appreciated
Southampton- Bournemouth activity needs BATS stock. I have a promise of some more activities to follow soon.
I hope you like the route. Rick
