This is something me and Jonatan ended up starting on after discussing my recent thread, we're both think it's a good idea and we hope you will too.
This is what we're working with, took a while to get it transferred over to 3DS Max, and it take a bit of a bashing, but she's good to help me build the new version which will be released for KRS and MSTSX (depending on graphical limitations).
Progress:
Enough with the talking, here's what we have so far.
And a wireframe of little Eiser and her big sister.
They are looking great! Won't it be a pleasure to have more polys to play with in the future sims, we hope.
I say 'we hope' because at present the figure of around 20,000 polys or so, was mentioned somewhere early on for KRS. (MSTS X is an unknown, at this stage.) I'm already doing 20,000+ single LOD models and have them working in MSTS 1, which isn't bad when you consider the default Acela was touted as around 3,500 polys, WOW! That figure was a big deal in them thar far off early days of MSTS.
Turns out the very old MSTS 1 graphics engine was more capable of (nice) surprises than we knew. So, I hope that's what we can look forward to in the new gen sims - more (nice) surprises.
Cheers Bazza
PS BTW, The furtherest loco has the left cylinder normals inside-out. You will have to carefully fix this by normalizing them, which reverses them. Attempt this on a special saved scene, because it can go wrong. You should 'detach' the part/s first.

Yeah, i'm aware some parts of the model suffered from converting it to a 3ds max format, but the other cylinder's fine so i can use that for reference.
The Kuju Black 5 clocks in at 27000 triangles with it's tender according to the site, and so my aim is around 30000 triangles. Normally it would be lower, but Jonatan's MSTS version is around 20000 triangles already.
Very nice! I'm unfamiliar with the loco in question, so could you confirm whether it is eight- or ten-coupled? I can see five axles, but no coupling rods between the 4th and 5th ones. I have heard of some locos using internal rods or even gears .. Also, which was the manufacturer?
I may be wrong here, but i believe Eiser is fictional, a mix and match of many different locomotives. I'm pretty sure that's what Jonatan said when discussing it, i'll have to ask him later.
And now for some bad news. My computer crashed whilst rendering out some progress shots and the file went with it. I do thankfully have a backup but it's a bit outdated and from the looks of it i'm going to have to remodel an awful lot ):
Anyway, here's the render.

Well 2 and half hours and she's starting to come back to life.
Started building the cab, the mesh looks a bit messy in the middle because it's not welded yet, just mirrored to give an idea of what it may look like once done.

Eiser is an engine with the Luttermoller articulation system. http://www.dself.dsl.pipex.com/MUSEUM/L ... moller.htm Eiser is based on the engine on that page and her "real life sisters" can still be found plying the sugar plantations of Java.
Other than that she's completely fictional. There mustn't be a prototype for everything you know.
