Coupling Distance Help Please.

Post by TylerDurden »

I need some help, The 158 Im working on connects fine to the rear unit, but if you try and couple the units face to face they are far too close and touch, Is there a way of increasing the distance at the front coupler but not at the rear?

Thanks :).
Arriva aren't that bad, are they?

I'm not 100% what you mean, but as far as I have found its eiather of the following..

I either find that coupling distance is set by the InertiaTensor ( Box ( 2.74m 3.99m 18.76m ) ) or the size, or a combination of the two.
Also normally I find that the distance works by adjusting the gap at the front.

It's all to do with the size, and also the position of the main frame's axis.
If you want vehicles to overlap (like a steam loco cab overhangs the tender drawbar) you have to move the axis off-centre and control the amount of overlap with the size parameters.
The values in the .sd file (ESD_Bounding_Box) are used for collision detection and changing these won't actually move the vehicle fore or aft.

For a DMU or EMU the axis should really be placed dead-centre along the length of the vehicle and the size defined as the distance from buffer to buffer or buffer to the rear corridor connection depending on the type of vehicle.

Hope this helps

In addition to what Kim said, I generate my .wag file when the buffers are on the vehicle but not yet the couplers. After that I add the couplers, and they will then be in correct contact with each other.
