I'd take the class 170s - the doors are easily as wide as the 150s. People don't seem to like sitting in the middle 3+2 seat anyway. 170s also deputise on Brum to Walsall locals every so often anyway.

With no prospect of Cannock line electrification, Class 170s are better suited than many others to that line, particularly as they are normally non-stop between New St and Walsall. There are issues with using 170s on the Snow Hill lines - I don't think Snow Hill traincrew sign 170s (certainly they never have done in the past).

yes, but from a reliable source, the central 170s have shocking reliability and have the time are OOA anyway

at least with the 150s they work if you hit it with a hammer hard enough

As I was told once by a fitter at Newton Heath.

If they fitter's hammer won't get it moving again they don't give up, they just go and get a bigger hammer...

There was a 158 at Eastleigh last night.

(Was Central Green, with First PE logo stuck on)

We suggested a bigger hamer to fix it. He did not look too impressed.

from reading that, it sounds like the DfT are going to . the whole west midlands area up.

Seems they are doing stupid things like axing two cross city trains an hour which could be pretty darned stupid cos it can get rather busy

Only in the peaks though - I've travelled on it during the day both on weekdays and weekends and the trains have carried fewer than 10 passengers.
