More FSX Inefficiency

Post by bigvern »

Well I don't know if this is an indicator of poor programming, but I decided to uninstall FSX as part of a process of tidying up my old PC before the new one arrives. Started the Uninstall process at 1105 this morning and at 1235 still going (removing Backup Files). The progress bar actually maxed out at about 35 mins in but it was still deleting files then.

Most uninstallers take about 2 mins to do their thing with (I assume) a block delete of the files.

I am now seriously wondering whether I install this pile of cack at all on the new PC. And I can't imagine where PC Pilot magazine conceived their 5/5 score.

Most games don't take 13.5GB of HDD space.

Also, it would depend on your processor, the speed of your HDD, RAM, whether you were using the computer while it was running the uninstall process yada yada...

Well it was still trying to delete "backup files" after 1hr 50mins and a Ctrl-Alt-Del didn't even show FSX uninstaller as running. Maybe M$ decided in their arrogance that no one will actual remove this pile of rubbish that a decent uninstaller isn't required.

I also uninstalled FS Global from FS2004 as part of my tidying up which I believe is around 10Gb and that was done in about 30 seconds.

There are quite a few other programmes which require a 5 or 6 gig uninstall and they all took less than a minute so something is wrong in FSX.
