Freestyle activities

The MSTS Activity Editor allows you to make your own activities, or missions, for the player to complete. This is also how you can get lots of other trains running while you drive yours!

Freestyle activities

Post by codrivermike »

I would like to create an activity that allows you to move around shunting merrily without being constrained to a set path. I would also like to add mainline traffic passing by on the running lines. these lines would be out of bounds to my player train though.
How would i go about this? Would I still be able to change points at will?

Best regards

Michael

i think that due to MSTS limitations i dont think this is possible. but dont hold me to it becuase i think i recall doing an activity with a setr path but points in shunting are manually operated. and all others are automatic. im not a specific expert, but im on a 50:50 chance on whether its possible

Mike, your player path must have a start and end point. Between these I believe you can use manually operated points as you wish. There is no problem having services running on an adjacent mainline - they are just traffic services.

Indeed, all you need to do is start with one engine and you can pick up coaches, wagons, other locos at will, even change locos with the bin patch. All of this is provided that the route author has used manual points over the relevant point of the route in which you are operating. If he hasn't you will only be able to switch points in explore mode and that would mean there could be no passing trains! Mark

I have just done an activity for this route which is the Ukraine, Skvyra-Popilnya route. It's a nice route and some of the Russian-Ts stock is of such good quality I couldn't resist. (see screenshots forum) Unfortunately it's not freestyle though it does use the advantages of msbin in that I pick up a second loco, shunt, pick up my train and then swap to the second loco.

Now this is probably where the problem lies. I cannot manually move any points once the activity starts. How would i go about modifying the route to make points manual?
