XP SP2

Post by SamWBA »

I got FSX today. But I have a problem with it. You see, it requires XP SP2. So I went onto the website and it gave me a link to the Microsoft Update page. It said express or custom, and I downloaded express. But it wasn't clear whether it was to download SP2 or not. I then tried to install FSX again but it said that I still hadn't got SP2.
What do I do.

I would suggest either going for the Custom update (which, if you dont have it already, should have XP SP2 as an option).

Otherwise, try the following -

If I were you, I'd let the "express" option to it's business. The "express" option basically downloads all esential downloads without any filtering. The "custom" option allows you to select and deselect what downloads to take. But as the naming & descriptions are very vague, it ain't worth messing about with the "custom" route.

If you're still on SP1, then you might have to go through the cycle two or three times to get firstly SP1 patched up, then SP2 installed, and finally patches to SP2.

Of course, should you have an..ahem, illegal copy...of XP, then you won't be able to update to SP2. Microsoft have introduced checking to fish out the copies of XP that haven't been legally obtained. They do have a way out, though....cough up some dosh to make your copy legal. Which is cheaper than buying a copy from a shop!
