MSTS OR BVE?

i have been torn whether to download BVe or not as i currently have msts
when you open abnd close the london underground doors do they make a sound and how does the whole experience compare?

BVE and MSTS dont compare directly. If you like one is a game (MSTS) and one is a sim (BVE4). BVE4 has far better train physics, sounds and offers a far more involving and 'real' experience. MSTS can have better graphics and the fun element of shunting and the different things that can be done in activities. BVE is restricted to the one viewpoint while MSTS can move around.

If you want to have a go at the London Underground then you will have to get BVE, as there are far more routes. It does LU very well, its about as near as you can get to being in the cab (I speak from experience). MSTS has few LU routes although the forthcoming District Line looks superb.

Download BVE4, its free, doesnt take long and will keep you amused for a few hours over Xmas. If you get the Northern line route to begin with that will give you a flavour, its about the best. Yes the doors make the correct noise and even the radios chatter every so often! Seeing the in-cab CCTV monitor light up is a neat touch too. I have it and I play it every so often, although I am into steam, which BVE doesnt have.

All the BVE4 routes are on http://www.trainsimcentral.co.uk where you can download a lot of routes and trains (My favourite is the Virgin 221). If you download BVE Route Randomiser ang configure it to yhour main BVE4 Folder you can use any train on any route its avalible from http://koti.mbnet.fi/lopomo/trainsoft/BRR.html

Oi! That's a common misconception. In fact about 90% of routes and trains are on trainsimcentral(and most of the best ones), with the result that most people never bother to look at any of the other sites.

need a little help:
i can control the train just about but on the nothern line it open and closes the doors automatically! can you change this
also when i press F6 at any stage it wont open and close the doors

Unfortunately there is no way of stopping the doors opening automatically, If you want to open the doors anywhere on the route while in BVE4 right click, go into options, user and click User and change to developer. Then when you press F6 the doors will open and when you press it again the dors will close.

you too. i have found a solutuion to the doors. when your train is nearly stationary but still moving slightly, press F6 then you get the announcments (as long as you are on the mark) and they close when wanted! sorted. what are the 9 and 0 button for as they make buttons light up in the cab but do not affect the train?

In the readme file of the 1995TS It says

The cab also features several pushbuttons :
End Door cut-out Left doors : 8 key
Public Address System : 9 key
End Door cut-out Right doors : 0 key

I havent the slightest what these mean apart from the PAS

what is the public address system? is it the tanoy? can you really use it with a mic?

Its the station annoucement, On the Edgeware - morden routes if you have it on before you enter a station you can just faintly hear "This station is ..... Change here for ...."

Actually those announcements are automatic like on the real trains. The end cut-out doors give the impression of stopping the end doors opening at places such as Charing Cross and the public address system button is pushed when the driver wants to make a manual announcement. You cannot use a microphone and it is simply an addition that doesn't actually serve a purpose other than to add a bit of realism.
