Woodhead v2

Post by model321 »

Hi everyone, i know this is an 'old' type route (well since 2003) but i am having trouble installing it. How i have installed it is by extracting all of the folders to c:\program files\microsoft games\train simulator\routes\woodhead and the running the installme file but i think this aint the right way to install it.
Can anyone help?

Thanks
Matt C

Hi, I like Model321 (Matt C) would like some advice on installing Woodhead V2.0, I have tried to understand the various readme's and I'm getting confused so I have this morning unzipped the following File's into my C:\Inst Folder
1) File ID 4573
2) File ID 4574
3) File ID 4575
4) File ID 4576
I have also got the File ID 4717 which installs the latest version but as yet I'm holding back until I know what to do.
Can someone please advise me how this route can be correctly installed in my MSTS and if I need to install more Files to make it work.

Thanks
Bob

Here are the installation instructions from Version 2 in file 4573:

Installation Instructions
=========================
1. You must have the six standard routes installed. Backup your MSTS Installation.
I have to say this because even though I've tested the Route Riter generated files
on my system, it just might not on yours!

2. Rename your old Routes\Woodhead folder as Routes\WoodheadV11 if you want to keep it,
otherwise delete it - overwriting it with V2.0 will no doubt be a disaster!

3. Unzip the contents of each of the ZIP files into your Train Simulator\Routes folder
with folder names on - this should create a new Woodhead folder.

4. Find and double click on the InstallMe.bat file. This will copy all the appropriate
files required from the default routes.

5. And thats it - fire up MSTS, select Woodhead and run an EM1 with some MGR's from
Wath or Tinsley to Mottram to see the bulk of the new stuff straight out!

To upgrade to Version 2.2 Beta extract the contents of file 4717 to the Woodhead folder.
I suggest you the use Routeriter to check the installation.

Alan,

Should he not also delete the UK ID tags on the zip files before proceeding further?

Hi Alan, thanks for info I was getting confused about the 6 standard Routes installed in the instructions and just now I've had a go at installing it and it works o.k.
There are no Activities in the Activity Folder therefore no Route Loco's on show, so does this mean I have to download some from the list of Activities from the Route Library and work from there to build up the Route to its full potential.
Can I now run File ID 4960 to add the map to the Route as I did with the Far North Line.

Hi

Tony - no need to strip off the UKTS prefix as these are not spanned zips. Each file unzips separately

Bob - you will need to download activities, checking they are for version 2, and all the required stock. I found 16 activities. Enjoy! The map is a .jpg that you extract to anywhere you want. I usually create a Documents folder in each route to extract maps and activity instructions.

Hi Alan, sorry to be pain in the ****, you say there are 16 Activities for the Woodhead V2.0, I have only managed to find 2 i.e. File ID 4587 and File ID 8647 that I could install successfully.
On checking with Activity Analyser both contain stock I cannot find because they most probably deleted from the file base, I deleted all the ones that were clearly for V1.0 and the rest, all 18 of them eventually were for the V2.2 despite some at the start being listed as V2.0.
These 18 give the same error message at the start when I moved the Activity File over the Tsunpack icon in the Utils folder :- these are compiled on a Track Database of 487 instead my 476.
I have come across this problem before and invariable when checking in AE, they give me more error messages and I don't want to cause more problems in MSTS so I just delete them from the Activities Folder.

Can you assist me so that I can try some working Activities on the Route.

Hi Alan, thanks for that info.,I've had some luck with the stock with one of the Activities I mentioned earlier, I had to go on Train-Sim.com site to download the LURStock needed.
The other one I've replaced in AA the MML_Old_HST_Rear with the Rear of the Arriva HST File ID 6940 which I had to install because I needed the two coaches Arriva43RB and Arriva43TSG from the same File.
It asks for 1 x IC-West_MK2E_FO and 1 x IC-WestMK2D_TSOT Coaches and the best I can come up with is to use File ID 8600 and after installing, use the File ID 8599 to get a better definition of view.
In the Read-me it tells me to install the Modern Coaches Sounds File ID 3824 as well and have the MSTS Sound Setup Menu is set to high and MSTS performs to your satisfaction, can anyone tell me where this Menu is as I have had a look for it and can't spot it.

Bob

Ps, just run File ID 4717 and the Route Folder is now called Woodhead V2.2 and as I have some other things to do tonight, I will wait until tomorrow and install the V2.2 Activities I have in my File Database.
