Romney, Hythe and Dymchurch railway

Post by MikeM7044T »

Yesterday, I paid a visit to the Romney, Hythe and Dymchurch railway, it was the final day of their Thomas the tank engine gala, sitting on the shingles near The Pilot pub, then all of a sudden, a exceedingly loud whistle came by the crossing, and Henry the Green engine swept past.
Whilst my younger brother ran around in hysteria, I kept my look out down the track for other engines.
The German locomotive, No. 11 Black Prince came down the line, and it had a rather fimilar German face on!
Down at Romney the action was there, Basil the Bug and Trembley the tram engine were on shuttle duty, with the odd express from Hythe shooting by.
In the Bug shuttle, I met some people from JAPAN [!] telling me that Thomas has a cult following out there.
Back to the railway, after a period meandering round New Romney, packed with people, I went into the shop, and found a CD-ROM called the Romney, Hythe and Dymchurch experience, in which includes a drivers eye view of the whole line.
Earlier, at Dungeness, I had examined the possibilities of making the RHDR, in case you can't remember, I was toying of the idea of making some 15in stock.
The purpose of this post is that after the Bluebell is released, I am going to make the RHDR in MSTS.
Before you say "...you'll need...", I have thought ahead, and am making the stock to go with it.
I have made No. 8 Hurricane and 1 open RHDR coach already, and have made some generic sounds for the locomotives.
This is to replace what I said I was going to add to my model of the Marshline, which I am going to delete anyway.
So, any help whatsoever is welcome, and KevMT, what track have I got to download?

Did you see the model railway at New Romney?
And climb the light house at Dungeness?
Can't wait to see the route.

Are you making that Diesel loco with the Eastbourne Buses livery on it? and the buffet car?

Mike,

I presume you will make it to the same scale (2x) as the River Mite that you mentioned before in NG forum . Therefore, you would need to use Tim Bridges Narrow Gauge track from the Library.

I've seen the model railway and it is brilliant especially the rat that runs round (the line is nicknamed the ratty for those that don't know).

Yesterday, there was a wooden replica of the Heywood locomotive Ursula named Woody, as a kids play structure.
And does anyone remember the wooden model of Hurricane in the car park, I went for a ride on the RHDR in 1998, saw it in the car park, came back and it was gone!
I went there yesterday, and they've transformed it into Winston Churchill!
The toy and model museum was packed, and the thing that caught my eye was that Bullied made out of Icing sugar!

Yeah the passenger view.

When I was 4 - 6 years old I used to sit facing the wrong way and pretend that I was driving the train.

Those memories.... And getting to and from Folkestone on the 'Jaffa Cake'

Yes the Ravenglass and Eskdale is known as the ratty:

'Welcome to La'al Ratty as the Ravneglass and Eskdale Railway has been known for over a century' (according to the guidebook) :D

I believe the Ratty is the same length as the Talyllyn to within a yard (another useless fact :-))

I thought it was the RHDR, oh well that clears that 1 up. Wonder why they had a rat on their model railway then? :-?

Yes I have seen the rat.
I like the hands-on idea of the layout up there.
But I also like that really long-15inch gauge model railway they have too!
Only joking, model or toy railway, never, its a mainline in miniature!

A mainline with no branches....

I heard that there was plans originally to extend to Rye, with a station at Lydd and Camber

Nobodys mentioned the Captains plans to lay water troughs...what a development that'd have been!

I never knew that, but my one won't have them, I've made all the engines sans trouphiuos.
I do know that while Mrs. Howey was away in 1963, Jack brought his 10 1/4 in Royal Scot into the house and steamed it up!
And had the room redecorated before an unsuspecting Mrs Howey got home!

The RHDR is a very pleasant railway. My father sometimes goes to drive for them at their invitation and I have enjoyed many runs on the railway. I see u say uve "made all the engines....." is there anything to see and if so could u maybe post a few tantalising screen shots?
