71000 Duke of Glouc

Post by ilovequo »

Hi

I was planning on going to York this Saturday (16th Dec 06) to see Duke of Gloucester but have been told that it wont be running because it failed last weekend.

Is this true and if so what was wrong and what will be doing the St Albans - York run this weekend. uksteam.info just says TBA

Apparently Duke of Gloucester, on an Ely-Victoria run, ran out of coal at Cambridge. Passengers were conveyed to London by a hired-in pair of '365s', which, needless to say did not run out of coal... :P

I heard that it was leaking tubes that caused the problem.

I'm on the tour. I hope it's still a steam loco even if it's not the Duke of Gloucester.

just seen on the mid hants website

"Turned out the cause of Saturday's problem with 71000 Duke of Gloucester was boiler tubes.
Several flue-tubes and smoke-tubes needed expanding at the firebox end, and Andy and Gavin had done the flue-tubes and they were working on the smoke-tubes by mid afternoon and reckon the job may be
finished tomorrow morning, so the excursion on Saturday looks OK to run"

According to UKSTEAM 60009 Union of South Africa is out instead of the Duke.
