Glasgow 2007

Post by petethetim »

Well I am determent to go this Year Health permitting
I have got a Room Reserved in Glasgow City Centre But If the Sandyford Can accommodate I will take it because its Closer to the SEC .Though The City Centre would be handy too as her indoors Could do a bit of shopping & still be with in Walking distance of Hotel Its Near Argyle Street.

Well See what evolves I tried to book a Sail & rail With Stena / First Scot Rail but they Can only operate 12 weeks in advance.

I would rather do it this way because I hate flying

So Fingers Crossed I'll be there ,I plan to Spend Most of the Saturday Afternoon at SEC

Cheers

Peter

Pete

Not too sure about your physical fitness, etc, but thought you might like to know that the Sandyford Hotel is a good 10 - 15 min walk from the SECC...and wihin 5 mins of either a bus stop or train station into Glasgow.

It has a converted shop front as reception and an array of winding and steep stairs to rooms and the breakfast room.

I'll be in disguise then..

And Pete, I'm glad that the Sandyford is "within range". I wasn't too sure if your hospital visits meant you weren't OK for a decent walk. Laurie (lad491) wouldn't be able to walk from the Sandyford...his health ain't what it used to be   . We'd have to administer oxygen around half way!...and carry him the rest of the way. :P

What a good idea :)

Volunteers please to man an oxygen stop half way and run the pick up and carry service ;)

Ive had to miss this event for the last two years, despite planning to attend, as my health in the winter months is generally not good. In fact im off work now again with Asthma and its still comparatively warm. Im not sure yet if i will get to Glasgow, but like Pete I will try.

If i dont stay in the same travel inn with the rest of the team, i'll probably try and get a room at the travel inn on the opposite side of the river to the SEC - i forget the name now. Its a traditional motor inn with all rooms on the ground floor and parking in bays outside your chalet room.

But its a long way off yet and Brighton is usually the test as it comes first. If i have trouble there then there wont be any way i can get to Glasgow :(

Well I have about 4 different things wrong with me but two of them {Fibromyalgia & Chronic Fatigue Syndrome} on bad days would stop me walking my Other Illness are internal & are always a cross to bear
Thats what I am going on the Friday Can have a bit of recovery time Then be a bit rested for Sat ... On Second Thoughts The City Centre would be good because Argyle St is station just with in 2 mins walk & a train to the Exhibition station just means a walk over the covered walkway into the SEC

Setting up is usually done on the Friday evening Pete - no rest for the wicked ;) but of course helping set the stand up isnt obligatory :)

If i go (and its a big IF ) i'll probably set off on Thursday and stop somewhere near Carlisle for an overnighter. Arrive Glasgow on the Friday, check in and then off to the SECC to help (or hinder) setting up :)

Hi Laurie,

The Glasgow show starts on Friday AM, setting up was done on Thursday afternoon/evening this year.

No reason to think 2007 will be any different.

Cheers,

Alan.

Oops - i was forgetting that its a 3 day jobby :( thanks for the reminder Alan. And if memory serves - isnt it a late finish on the Friday too ? *pm or something like that ?

So if I come it will be a day earlier then, driving up Wednesday for the show setup on Thursday. But its still a long way off yet .

Yes. The weather down south was really bad that week leading up to the show, and as i was off work sick I didnt feel i could make the long drive, As it turned out Scotland had the best of the weather for once :)

Yes it's a three day show with Friday as a long day until something like 9pm. We usually travel up there to arrive on Thursday around lunchtime, set up and then relax in the travel inn for the evening ready for the long day ahead on Friday.

It's a long way to go but it is by far and away my favourite show of the year with Brighton coming second.

Last February, I flew up from NEMA on the Wednesday evening and stayed until Monday. I went to the Glasgow Transport Museum on the Thursday morning, and then strolled over to the SECC and met up with Matt to help set up. I then spent the Monday with Alan Howat, who kindly taxied me to and from the airport.

I might do a similar thing next year, Alan and bank manager permitting!

And I'll second Matt's judgement of the Glasgow show. The organisers make everyone welcome, and other traders and demonstrators and the visitors to the stand are very friendly are a delight to chat to.

Doug

You should come to Ireland despite our poor press over past 35 Years We are as big hearted It must be something to do with that KELTIC Spirit ( spelt It With a K Just in case you Thought I was trying to Plug My Football Club  )....
No But Seriously Glasgow is one of them Cities that you are never Lonely in Someone will always make conversation with you Its My Favourite City in Europe.

And I do sincerely hope that my Health permits me to go even for the sake of getting to Glasgow again a place I used to visit a dozen timers a year I've not been since Sept.2004, but to visit a UKTS Roadshow will be the Icing on the Cake.
Regards & Best Wishes
