Yet more proof we are doing a far better job of stuff for MSTS then Micro$oft and Kuju did.

yeah i know what you mean eddie, it may have been a little tricky for me to work the lights out but for an experienced games designer it really wouldn't take much extra effort to give the game those special touches that improve it so much.

oh and rick, here's one with more emphesis on smoke lighting (prehaps too much)

yeah thing is the only red code i can find is that of the red guards van/ tailamps and that is a bit over the top, where can i find other colour codes

Well Dan, rec'd your posts, tried to reply...........SMTP error your ISP end.
Email name as per your header not recognised.........tried automatic "reply" several times, and then typing in the header.....no go.

Looked for this post, eventually found it, 'cos I knew you used a different name.........and you had not said which forum thread........

Here's my reply as in my Email.............

I led a thread a while ago trying to get interest in developing a generic 3D
crew for open cabbed locos, it seems wrong to me to have a loco tearing up the main line minus crew...!!!...however, it failed to produce results.

Now you want me to see an empty cab at night, too............Pah!.........
( only joking.......OK!!!!!)

Pic looks very good, but don't get me wrong, while the chimney lighting IS
new as far as I can recall, firebox lighting isn't.

So........are you aware, several people include flickering lit fireboxes
with their models. We don't include them with our output deliberately, as in our experience it causes a hit on frame rates with older machines.
However.......if you have cracked that issue and have proved little or no deterioration using the frame counter, we may well include it, with due credit to you. For partly the same reason we don't include lights.....and anyway they usually end up showing the wrong type of traffic, just as bad in our opinion as no lights!!

We'd rather not get into you issuing .eng files for our locos at this
stage.......for very good reason...........we are still developing all the
locos we have produced, and already have seven differing .eng files for the Compound(s) !!!!!!!!!!!! Imagine the confusion which could occur, and the feeling people would have towards our model and your work, if you issued a .eng file which suddenly reverted them to a previous iteration or was for a differing loco, and so was incompatible with the one you had used it for..........!!!!!!!

The second compound is about to be issued, a LHD loco with Fowler Chimney, and LMS ones are not far behind.....all naturally have unique .eng files. An issue 2 of the first Compound issued is also imminent, as some users have had problems with it (despite us
testing it OK on four very different computers!!)

HOWEVER.......what you have done IS clearly worth
persuing..................SO.............I suggest that you do this as a
"Tutorial" type upload exercise, that is, you put up a full explanation of
how to amend/append any .eng file to include your fire/chimney lighting with example(s), and let the user make his/her choice.

If you decide to do this...............

1. I'll gladly help with beta/sense testing your output before you post it.

2. You are quite welcome to use one or more of our locos as the printed demo unit(s) in youe explanation, but it must be made clear to people that they need to add your mods to the latest version of any engine file, and only to one specific to that version/iteration of the loco.

Let me know what you think.................

Keep Going.........and.............what are you like on 3D Crew?........... :P

Regards,

Dave

Hi Dave,

Dan sent me a copy of his .eng file for the K4, and I have now posted the loco here. The K4 has high poly count in any case, so a bit more is not going to make any difference, and as it only works at night, it will not worry many people.

This is not a firebox light, but a light for the ashpan under the loco. He has also given the complete cab a red glow, much more realistic than just a flicker around the firebox.

I have altered his files so that the lights only come on after dark, so they should have minimal effect.

On the subject of lights, I have now managed to get the level crossing signs to flash, and once I get the crossing barrier lights to flash as well, will re-post my level crossing set.

Re: firebox/firegrate.I really must take more water with it...and so early in the morning, too......... :drinking:

Thanks for Email Wookey/Dan, given your probs I won't attempt to reply!!!

If you'd like to check your compound model settings against the new one's eng file (41167), and send the modded file with modded sections highlighted in colour even I can't miss ( ), I'll test with LMS 1045 and or 1111 and include when uploaded with credits if I can.............
