The Rail Simulator forum was very busy leading up to the UK release on October 12th 2007, this is a read-only copy of those discussions for historic and review purposes.

The screenshots are FANTASMAGORICAL (never had to spell that before and will never try again)

Just one observation. There is no grease on the buffers. They just look like grey squares.

Other than that, WOWZERS!

Great to see more posts coming out of the Kuju camp!

The screenshots are great and the engines look by far the most impressive element of them.

The only minor gripe I have is the flatness of the platform. It looks a bit cardboard cutout - but I can understand not doing it due to poly counts etc.

Hi
I still don't like the look of that track...........concrete sleepers, very clean ballast, no chairs or clips.......and fish plates with bolts?.
I'm no permanent way expert....but that doesn't look right to me.

I hope they sort out some decent, realistic diesel exhaust too!

Realise HST's throw out plenty of clag when accellerating along with run-down class 47's but diesel exhaust is usually almost imperceptable.

One extremely unrealistic quality of MSTS and Trainz models.

Seen heaven knows how many class 66's today and two Voyagers and none exuded anything more than a heat haze.

Cheers

In the editor picture, I just discovered a new fourth icon, a train symbol, in the main toolbox. It could be that this is function I was deeply missing in Leipzig, namely the ability to place rolling stock onto the tracks.

Matts post

Post by TheTazman »

I was reading Matts news on the KRS site. He does not mention it at all on there. The editor i mean. I certainly think it looks very user friendly. But I must say that I have never had a proper go at builidng a route. I just do not have enough time during my pretty hectic days.

The MSTS editor when i did play with it had many do's and don'ts, and was very easy to crash it (sorry if i am knocking MSTS a bit hard there).

I will certainly have a bash tho at taking the time to explore this editor. It really does look a hundered times more user friendly.

Yep , in the pics Klaus posted from Leipzig the editor looked well designed and this pic from Kuju confirms it for me at least . If , as Kuju says on their website this sim is " for everyone from the casual train fan to the dedicated enthusiast " there is a real need for an easy to use interface that will attract new buyers to the genre and keep them interested in using the software. No doubt some may disagree with the design but we must remember it's not just for the experts ( :P ) .

Have to agree with jbilton , I'm not sure about the track we're seeing here :-?

It sounds too friendly to me, and not very realistic.
In fact isn't it how you control Trainz locos.
Unfortunately doesn't really bode well for the accurate physics, we were hoping for.

Maybe you can add bump/normal mapping when you build your own platforms :)
