Electric locomotive does 357KPH (223MPH in old money!)

Post by seaeagle »

Today in Germany, Austrian railways (OBB) locomotive 1216 050 reached 357KPH whilst on test on the Nürnberg - Ingolstadt line. This smashes the previous best of 331KPH set by SNCF locomotives BB9004 & CC7107 set some 55 years ago. Pictures can be seen at http://drehscheibe-online.ist-im-web.de ... ?4,3022857

Surely the french SNCF TGV holds the electric record at 514 kmh. Was set in a five car set about ten years ago.

A TGV set is not a locomotive, it is a EMU (electric mutiple unit). Locomotive 1216 050 is the fastest electric locomotive. Also the TGV set that did 514KPH (set 531 if my memory is correct), was modified for that run.
